4 runner brake pedal too low

My 97 4 runner 2wd truck's brakes work well but the pedal almost goes to the floor before the brakes grap- I replaced the front pads a week ago and it did help slightly. But the pedal still grabs low- if I pump the brake, it does seem to build up pressure. Is the master cyclinder worn? My truck has over 161000 miles on it with no major issues. What is wrong with the brake system? thanks!

could be anything... bad booster or a leaky wheel cylinder... try bleeding the brake system first. look for busted or leaky brake lines or hoses. also check around the master cylinder for fluid leaks. usually when you replace the pads you should machine the rotors if wihtin specs....or replace the rotor with new...

^^+1. I've got the same problem. Just replaced my brake lines. It helped, but not enough for me to be happy. I'm going to check the wheel cylinders when I've got some free time on monday. It's a pretty common problem. There are lots of threads about it if you search for them. Good luck.

No brake fluid leaks at all- master cyclinder if full with brake fluid- brake lines don't seem to expand when brakes are applied- i am still thinking master cyclinder??
