Oka here we go, I hear from everywhere that it is a bad engine..
Any Problems that I should be on the lookout for in the near future?
(139K on Original Engine.)

-HG (replaced on recall)

Recently Done
-New NGK Plugs
-New NGK Ignition Wires
-New Distributor Cap
-New Serpentine Belts
-All Fluids were replaced within 800 miles ago(except transmission)
-Oil Changed 1,000 Miles ago
-Fuel Injector Cleaner-1,000 Miles ago as well.

Just keep doing the "preventive maintenence" your doing to it in your post and it will run forever.

 

For best results use only Toyota OEM parts on that engine...


T-Belt, tensioner, water pump.

Plugs, wires, cap...

There are no after market parts better than OEM. No starters, no alternators... Nothing.

 

its a good motor that will last long if you take care of it and it seems like your taking care of it man

 

Ill chime in here. I think the 3.0 is a turd. Everyone ever made fails.
Headgaskets are inevitable. Nightmare to work on. More hoses than a firehouse. More vacuum lines imaginable. Exhaust design fail.

if you keep up with your maintenance like the stuff you talked about you can beat on it and it should still make at least 200k

 

UH..yes it is toyota's first v6.

 

Id say less than 5% of cars are taken care of like they should be.

Id never own a 3.0 again.

 

Many 3vze have gone 200k+. I'm rolling up on 250k on origanal motor.just don't try to make it get more power or MPG, leave it stock and it will take care of you for a long time.

 

Oka thanks guys, I do everything I can to keep it going, and run better,Most of my Money that I make goes to it, on things I can improve, to get it to run better. Its been a great Engine so far hasnt ever let me down. I try to keep it that way. What kind of oil do you other 3VZE Owners run? I run synthetic, because I think its better than Conventional.

 

my opinion its an alright engine( for stock tires ) if you dont mind spending a lot on fuel and love spending a whole day on a repair that should take an hour. i agree with yotaman keep her stock, if you do anything advance the timing a little but thats it. I personally have ditched my 3.slow and am running a om617 benz to turn my 36" tsl's and love it so far ;D

 

the wife sold her 92 4runner 3.0/5spd to a friend of ours years ago when it had 228k on it. the odometer broke at 356k and he prolly put on another 75k on it before rust took it off the road. maintenance and factory toyota parts go along ways.

 

I've never been able to understand peoples' fuel complaints. My '94 3VZE gets on the average of 20.5 MPG on mixed city/highway driving. The '05 Jeep Grand Cherokee I just sold NEVER got better than 16-18.

What are you guys doing (or not doing) to get such horrible mileage? Do you drive like freaks? Redline every shift point?

 

I love my two 3vzes, sure they are not the most efficient; but they have never let me down. Both original head-gaskets. The engine bay is tight, but fairly-well layed out. As mentioned above stick to OEM parts and keep up regular maintenance and you should never have a problem.

 

there was a thread not to long ago debating this. There are tons and tons of yotas with the 3vze that go over 200k no problem. The head gaskets are mainly problems for people who didn't have the recall done. besides only needing a head gasket done every 200-300k miles is really not that bad. Shoot my brothers 2000 ford rangers has had 2 motors put in it already and he only has 140k on his. the same with my dads chevy. if you compare the 3vze to alot of motors its pretty reliable. lol

 

Are you sure about that? on fueleconomy.gov, it says the 94 4runner with the 3.0 gets 13 city 17 highway. I dont know how you are pulling off getting 20.5 average. I'm not trying to be a smartass, I'm just a little confused

 

actually, the 3.0 is a decent engine. it's just not what people expect from toyota. anybody ever known someone with a chevy or ford? lol

"Toyota's first v6 and more than likely worst engine ever from Toyota" - Toyota never has made a "bad" engine. Just because you've had issues with the 3VZ-E doesn't mean everyone else has/will. I've had way more problems from my 22R then any of my 3VZ-E's

 

On mine i get about 14-17 MPGs , and I shift around 2700-3000 rpms depending on the gear/speed Im going.

 

Yeaa American vehicles dont last as long, after about 150-180K Ive noticed that they start to break down, in phases of repairs. From what Ive seen. But I have to give it to Ford tho Their 7.3L Powerstroke Turbo Diesel Engine, Is the one that ive seen turn over 250K
