Hey guys,

I know this subject is like beating a dead horse but I have a question regarding the swap with the ECU and Auto tranny. I know the 5 speed swap is alot easier but that is not what I want. From what I have read, it really doesnt matter what year the engine is, just as long as the ECU and Auto trans is the same year. Is this correct? Im not talking about a 96 trans and ecu and a 2001 engine, but what if the enigine is a 99 4runner and the ecu and trans is out of a 98 tacoma 4x4. Wasnt sure if anyone has tried anything like this. Im trying to find a donor but I may have to resort to piecing it together. There is a salvage yard that I have found that has the engine. They know this because its sitting on a shelf. There not sure anything else to go along with it. But there is a yard that they dieal with that has a tranny and ecu just know engine. Im not sure how they inventory stuff. This is just what they told me. Thanks for the info

 

For simplicity's sake, I would think that you would be far better served if all of the parts came from the same truck / year. That way, you are certain that the ECU will be able to (easily) communicate with the engine and transmission.
