Hey everybody I'm new here. I have a 1995 Toyota 4runner automatic with the 3.0 my problem is its getting hot when its hot outside but in the mornings it does fine. Compared to the same drive just in the afternoon the temp gets pretty high. So my question is how do I get it back to running at a normal temp again.

How are you determining it's getting hot? What is the maintenance history? How hot is hot outside?

A list to consider:
What is the condition of the radiator? Thermostat condition? Radiator cap condition?Coolant status? Water pump not leaking? Fan clutch engaging properly when needed?

 

My gauge says H and the needle is in the red, also when its like that when I shut it off, I can hear it boiling. its been in the 80's, to low 90's. I'm not sure on the maintence history, as I just got it not to long ago. I can tell that the clutch fan is working just fine, cause when I start it up it spins at a lower speed, and if I rev up the engine the fan speed goes up also, the radiator looks to be in decent shape, today after it was hot I jumped out and felt it, and it was hot around the sides, but not the center, the center was cool. I haven't checked on the thermostat yet. Since I have had it the coolant hasn't been changed yet, its the red kind. the water pump isn't leaking. There was a small leak coming from the radiator cap, as well as the line going to the reservoir , but I fixed that today before I did the drive back while the weather was warm...

I was going to put a accessory fan in but if the clutch fan is working I'm not going to worry about it. to me its very weird. I made sure that the system didn't have any air in it. I did that by letting it run, without the rad. cap on eevery once in a while squeezing the upper hose with my hand over in the filler neck. and letting go. and then jut squeezing the hose...

I guess the only other thing that I could think of would maybe be just the thermostat, but im just not to sure yet what else it could be, and I don't really feel like jut throwing money into parts that aren't broke.

 

The cool spot in the center of the radiator seems to indicate a blockage. Pull it out and have it cleaned at a radiator shop or it might just be time for a new one.

Are you using any coolant?

 

I was having a similar issue, It was my radiator cap. Once i replaced it with an OEM one, I had no more boiling sound.
