Lots of work, lots of money, but the 2wd frame is closer in dimensions to the older SFA trucks than the IFS 4x4s if you really want to do it, and will offer a touch more travel.

I'd say keep it 2wd and throw a winch on the front, locker in the rear and you'll get most everywhere.

E: Anyone else notice that a lot of people lately seem to want to convert their 2wds to 4wd? I'm starting to feel like the only guy left who wants to keep it 2wd.

From: Nashville TN. I can help you if you're close BUT NOBODY CAN HELP YOU IF YOU DON'T FILL YOUR LOCATION IN!
Depending on how aggressive you want it off road... An IFS will do fine.

You can also put a rear locker in it and DRAMATICALLY improve its capabilities... But winter and slick road conditions will suffer...

Keep it for sentimental reasons, and as a hot shot high MPG run about...

And get a 4WD for the times you need 4WD...

Unless you're a fabricator and can source parts easy, I wouldn't convert a 2WD...
