Are 2WD and 4WD 3rd members interchangeable?

hey guys done a lot of searching have not found an answer.

I need a new rear carrier for my 89 4x4 four cylinder manual tranny truck. (4.10 gears)

Will a carrier out of a two wheel drive work? did they run the the same gear ratios?

No, they ran different gears. There's an axle code on your data plate, read: Link

BTW, use Google to search. Forum search functions typically suck. If you want to search Yotatech only, go to Google and type in your search terms and include "site:yotatech.com" in your search phrase, and it'll just return results from YT.

2wd was a 7.5" R&P, yours is an 8"

you should be able to find a used 8" 4.10 pretty easily I have 2, but am hanging on to them

some 2wd's came with an 8" differential.

check the gear code of you want to be accurate.

and then check the gears PHYSICALLY when you get the third member to ensure it is the correct ratio.
