Looking at swapping the 22re on our 88 4Runner for a rebuilt 22re out of a 91 pick up truck. Anything we should know or watch out for ? Appreciate the advice.

i have a 92 pickup, and an 87 4Ruster, i have swapped parts back and forth, but never the whole engine, with never a problem. There are more hoses and electronic differences on the newer engine. sorry no first hand experience with a total swap.

 

Lucky for you, this topic has been discussed at great lenghts and most of the time, in great detail on this board.

I would suggest doing a search and narrowing it to the Engine Swap section - you should get hours and hours of reading if you use the right keywords.
