22re overheating Abnormally

Ok so i have a 91 22re. I replaced the heatercore because it was cloged also just did the headgasket and took the head to a machine shop to make sure it was all good. New factory stock t stat and burped the system and its STILL overheating. Although when i drove it up to the mts up hills totally romping on it it ran fine only got hot on the highway up to the hills but then this morning driving it in town it got super hot to the point that I turned it off, i let it cool down and drove it home and it didnt heat up again. Also it use to run at about the 1/4 mark for temp and after all this work on it its been running middle to high middle mark super hotter then im use to. Any ideas?

well this is what my 22re did when the HG was leaking. but you said you just replaced it, so i dunno. i kno when mine would overheat, i could cut it off and let it set fro about 10minutes, turn it back on and it was nice and cool. mine run at about 1/4 to before it blew a HG. now after a HG and a rebuilt motor it runs 1/2 normally. runs perfect.

The temp gauge in our trucks is not the most accurate, does it really seem like the engine is running hot ?, how old is the radiator ?, have you ever had it checked ?.

This morning it was hot when i pulled over i could hear it boiling but it didnt boil out. & it cooled down super fast like 10 mins and it was back to normal temp and ran fine the rest of the way home but it was like a 5 min drive. I believe its the org radiator and i havnt had it checked but its so off and on im not sure if it could be that. Yesterday it heated up and then cooled itself down with the heatr and then was fine going up steep hills. It just doesnt make sense. How do i get my radiator checked?

If the thermostat is new and your sure that you got all of the air out of the system, then the only thing left is the radiator. If you think its the original radiator then i would just replace it, you can get a new all metal two core radiator from radiator barn for 131.00 dollars.

How do you know ?, LOL. I had to replace the fan clutch on my 4Runner a while back because it was leaking the silicone fluid that`s inside of it all over the place.

I blew a head gasket on a new motor due to a bad fan clutch. Needless to say i was a bit pissed but learned a hard lesson.

I blew my headgasket because of a completely clogged heater core but after the head gasket and heater core it is still getting super hot and honestly i wanna get it figured out so i dont blow the HG again cause it wasnt the funnest thing to replace

ditto i would think the heater core would just be bypassed by the hot coolant but still continue to circulate. If it was me kcyotachick21 i would start with the radiator, double check and recheck the t-stat, check the fan clutch, and make darn sure you don't have any leaks in the cooling system. As said before but it should be replaced with a new radiator the cap as well should be considered. Good luck but i think your blown head gasket could be symptomatic of some other hidden problem that wasn't addressed when the head gasket was replaced.

You could have a monster clog in the block as well so if and when you replace the radiator make darn sure the system is flushed burped and filled properly.
