22RE dies at idle

Truck is 91 22RE. Had an issue last week where it would die when I stopped at a stop sign. I can put it in park, start it again, but when I shift into drive it dies. Another issue is the motor will skip if I turn on my lights while the A/C is running or put under heavy electrical load.

First I suspected it could be vacuum leak but I sprayed all around the engine bay with some starter fluid and I cant make it rev. No issues with intake hose that I can see. Battery is reading fine. Where to go from here?

Could be two separate issues, eliminate the voltage drop first since the transmission is electronic and the other may solve it's self.

You need to check loaded voltage at the battery, after the primary fusible link, and after the main fuse (another bit of FL wire in a fancy housing, but I digress). You should also verify the charging voltages, at the alternator, at the alternator junction box (follow the wire from alt, it's a small box on the left inner fender), and finally at both sides of the fuse.

A typical cause for automatic stall is the torque converter not unlocking, it may be a sticking solenoid or might not be receiving the appropriate signal (due to voltage drops)..

Electronics running on out of design spec voltages do odd and random unexpected things.
