22R/RE differences given it is same year

Hey guys,
I'm wanting to know if there are any significant differences in the block/head of an 1985 22R vs RE. I have a 22R(85) that I'd like to have rebuilt for use in my 85 4runner. I just have the 22R sitting in the shop and my thought was to have it rebuilt and do the swap in one or two days(while everything is fresh in my mind) vs. waiting several weeks for the motor in my 4runner to be built up. And yes, I tried the search function but didn't find a specific answer to this question. Thanks for your time.

They should both be the same, other than being carbed or fuel injected.

everything is the same internally, the only difference is that fuel gets delivered into the cylinders via carbarator as opposed to fuel injectors, i may be wrong, but im pretty sure the valve lash is adjusted diferently

So you want to put the formerly carbed long block into an EFI 4runner?

I would double check one thing just to confirm. Check to studs on the intake side of the head and confirm there are as many in the same positions for the EFI plenum to mount up. You should be fine though.

Aside from that, you probably do not have a spot for your knock sensor to thread into. You will have to find a good spot on the block, drill a big ass hole and tap it out to match your knock sensor.

That's all I can think of for now but if I can think of something else I'll let you know.
