20r Manual Fuel Pump

20r Manual Fuel Pump
Greetings everybody,
New member and first post here. Just a bit about me... I didn't even have a car/truck just over 4 years ago when I lived in a city on the east coast of the US where it was a hassle to own an automobile. I bought a used 3rd gen 4runner to move west, and now have that 97 4runner (4wd, manual), and have added a 1980 2wd Toyota Pickup/Hilux to the stable less than a year ago. I didn't/don't know much about automobiles, but have been teaching myself as I go. I work as a bike mechanic, and many modern bikes have hydraulic brakes and even electronic shifting systems. While I know its not the same, I have a general feel for troubleshooting and can turn a wrench. So, I've done some stuff on the 4runner, as well as having to outsource what seemed too big a task and/or I was lacking the tools/equipment to do the job properly. But I digress, the 4runner is limping, and I'll have some posts about that soon. My question now has to do with the manual fuel pump for the 20r in the 1980 pickup. Mine went bad, and I've bought a replacement at O'Reilly's here in AZ. It looks the part (although I just got it last night, and haven't removed the old one to compare) however when I actually look the part up on the Oreilly website it is speced for a 1980 Corona, and doesn't list the Pickup as a compatible vehicle (although the Corona is listed as having the same engine). It seems from a bit of research that many years of the pickup had electric fuel pumps and the 1980 might have been kind of an oddball with a manual fuel pump, but I'm not sure about that. Maybe this just could be an error in Oreilly's compatibility matrix. So, after that long winded explanation, my question is: is a manual fuel pump for a 20r going to be the same for all vehicles with the manual pump version of that engine? I have not been able to find much about the actual part I have, but fwiw, its an import direct M23041 (at least that is the number on the box). It is actually stamped with the number M60420. I am attaching a link to a youtube video that shows the pump I bought, and he is describing the newer version as well (the newer version is pictured/referred to in the manual that came in the box and is what is pictured when you look up the "M23041" pump on Oreillys site, but the one I purchased/in the box looks identical to the one in the video):
. It seems that it will work, and I am inclined to give it a go, but thought I'd ask here first. Thanks!

Yeah I don't think there's much variation on the R-series engines. If the bolt holes line up, and the engine runs, it's good. You're right, though, most (or at least many) 20Rs seem to have electric fuel pumps for whatever reason. Having a manual pump is great. They rarely fail, and even when they do, it's what...2 bolts? 3 bolts? 3 fuel lines and you're back on the road, right there in front of you in the top of the engine compartment. No dropping the gas tank.
With these old vehicles, it's best to check a few sources. Oreillys is alright, but definitely not gospel. It's good to check Toyota part numbers, check Rock Auto, check a couple other online places. eBay is a surprisingly good source for hard to find parts these days. One will tell you it's compatible, the other will not. Sometimes they're right, sometimes they're wrong...Just look closely at the images, if they provide any, and be prepared to return the part if it's not right.
