how is it that living by the beach most of its life, and running thru rocks and everything, my 88 has NO surface rust on the frame? it has a bit on the back of the cab from my boss using it and scraping the paint with a piece of wood and not bothering to tell me. i think new toyotas are crap. the only brand new cars i would buy are hondas. let the soccer moms of the world have the new overgrown monsters toyota calls the tacoma and tundra. im sorry but ive heard bad things bout new toyotas, not just on here, but since i work in the auto biz... yeah. then again its not just toyotas... but get far LESS complaints from other companies.

That's not rust! Move up here to Canada if you want to see what rust is.
OK... that wasn't helpful. The only helpful piece of advice I can offer is that if you're planning on using POR15 anyways, don't let them put any paint on there. That will just add a step for you (cleaning their paint off before you apply your POR15). for POR15, you have to be down to bare metal (or bare rust) and use the degreaser and the metal prep spray to get good adhesion. Don't forget any coating that you put on is only as good as the adhesion of the first layer to the base material. If the first layer is crappy rustoleum or something like that, you'll be wasting your time applying POR15 over top of that.

Not to rehash an old thread but I have an 05 DC Tacoma and have had a rust problem since about 07-08. I have call toyota twice and this time actually got some valuable information. In order for Toyota to actually look into a problem they have to notice a trend of calls with complaints. they review the nature of the complaint and what vehicle it was noted on. Please if you have a 2005 or newer tacoma with a rust problem please call and complain...you don't have to be an *ss just let them know the problem you are having. If they have a lot of calls they will look into it and hoipefully do something like they did with the 2000-04 models.
Please call and tell them about it
