Question 2003 4runner 4x4 not engaging

newbie is me to the 4runner forum. just bought a 2003 4runner and the 4x4 system will not engage it just blinks. was told it could be the front differential sensor part # 84222-35070. the locking diff. will not engage either. can the be both the same sensor or can it be more. any input from all you pro"s to the 4x4 forum would be great on what to look for. thanks to all.

Tell us more about your rig. Motor?transmission? Miles? Automatic hubs? Is the computer showing any sort of warning lights. Have you checked to make sure there is oil in the front diff, transfer case, and transmission? Answer these questions and it will allow us to help you better.

Just curious Why these issues were not addressed before you bought it??

Unless you bought it as a project in a big box??

have not checked anything yet really. 91,000 miles of local suburban driving. never taken off road. 4x4 system never used except in bad/snowy weather. no warning lights on,v-6, auto hubs, will inspect levels when weather breaks around hear, runs good, I think it needs to be taken off road to loosen everything up once I get the 4x4 working.

Most likely it is just stuck from not being used.

Get a copy of the FSM for your vehicle and figure out just how the system works then trouble shoot.

4x4 not engaging

little follow up. H.A.C & D.A.C. & traction control will not work either. when wheels spin, it goes into power reduction and will not allow any power to the wheels even go up a snowy hill at all!! I am tired off walking home when my front wheel drive car can travel up the same hill that has the same amount off snow on it. off to the transmission shop or dealer next week to get hosed.
