The 2 elect. controls behind shifter, both inoperable. Where's the problem?

90 4Runner V6 M/T 4WD.

behind shifter I have: 1) rear window up/down control and 2) the power window lock that keeps kids from messing with power windows in the non-driver seats. Well, neither of these controls functions.

I HAVE searched a few threads on rear window cheap tricks.
I see my 2nd gen 4R has that relay box in the left rear.
But if ALLLSSSOOOO the window lock does not work then maybe I would waste my time removing all those panels and such? Only to discover that my problem was elsewhere....

So, any smart dudes can maybe tell me where/what is the problem and a remedy. please.

I want to get back control of the rear window while driving and stop those pesty kids from breaking the ol' gal's power windows.
Oh, I did use threads on this site to do a silicone spray lube of the window channels so they are doing better. Thanks yotatech forum!

Muchas Gracias...

the center window lock button is only for the hatch window, as far as i know. so it's probably working fine, but you can't tell cause your switch doesn't work

try unlocking the window lock switch, and then try the rear window switch. The center switch, is, as stated, the back window lock.

OK, I stand corrected, but it is still inoperable...

Wow, it has been too long since I operated this truck....
Yes, embarrasingly, I clearly see now that there is a window lock on the left driver door arm rest that is for the door windows.
So the shifter switches are just for the rear door.
Now in the quiet of the early morning I tried to raise and lower the rear window with that lock switch in both positions, still no joy.
But like I said, in the quiet, for the first time, I heard a single faint "click" when I tried to lower the window. This click came from that left rear area.
Rear window operates fine from the key at the rear door, luckily...

So I guess I do have to go in there and try to accomplish one of the radio shack remedies....

Correct?

I have a 1987 4Runner that I had to fix an inoperable rear window in. I learned a bit about them. Yours is very similar except for the "roof off" switch since your roof does not come off... First, if you can use the key, that tells us that the motor and it's related wiring is good. Second, the key provides ground signal to the relay for window operation, it does not work the window motor directly. Third, you're hearing a slight click when using the button, this is a good clue that the switch and its wiring is in good condition. So, you probably have a bad sub-relay inside the master rear window relay. You would have to hunt things down with a volt/ohm meter to verify this, but all indicators are pointing this way. The safety interlocks are: Tailgate open switch, wiper not parked switch, and window lock switch. The first two not being satisfied would prevent key operation as well as front switch operation. Good luck, perhaps just locate a second generation window relay and go with it.

Weeeiiirrrdd!!!! Now it is working again...?

Well, my rear window wiper has this continuous case of needing viagra.
It all of a sudden just goes limp and falls down half way and stays at a mid-point on the rear window. I notice this in my rear view mirror, or as I crane my neck around to back-up.

Well, I usually get out and go back there to re-seat it at the loose and ready to fall off wedge shaped seating device.

Well, anyway, I thought that maybe this was some interlock, so I just released the rear window lock and pressed the button and it freakin' started lowering down.

Weird!

I will see tomorrow if this is just an intermittent problem or maybe it is ok.

I am ready to just rip off that stupid rear wiper. Never seemed to seat properly since day 1. Yes, I know..oil the spring!
