hey guys. I've been hearing lots of talk about how getting a 2" BL on my 3rd gen runner is a waste. I wont be taking it off road much at all, but I want to sit higher, and I think it looks good anyways. Is it as dangerous as everyone puts it out to be? I mean if a BL is cheap, then how is it a waste? If I do decide to put one on, what else do I need to look for as far as mods go? thanks alot.

 

if you dont go off road much and want to be a little higher, then do the body lift. like you said its cheap, and they are pretty easy to install. i did the 2'' on my truck in less then 4 hours from start to finish. they get a bad rap from people that dont like them because they are not "true lifts" or because they think they are unsafe. as long as the body mount bolts are tight then there is nothing to worry about. get the kit from 4crawler and you will be happy with it.

 

BL's are usually used only to gain a little more for tire clearance. Sure the body will sit a little higher, but the frame gets a little ugly sticking out underneath.

 

Only reason not to do a body lift is because you don't like the look. If you are fine with the look, then by all means. Nothing wrong with it.

As for offroading, thats got nothing to do with it. Lots of hardcore guys running 1 and 2 inch body lifts.

Other mods you may need once you've put the BL on would be a short throw shifter for the transfer case. Not guaranteed, but its possible.

 

what about steering extensions? Also, will I have problems with my front bumper? I have a 98 4runner.

A quality BL will include everything except for rear bumper brackets.

 

A quality body lift will include bumper brackets. If you worry about the appearence of a bodylift over it's functional use, you don't need to worry about a body lift. Go three inches if you go or don't go at all.

 

If you want to get easy lift, then just go with a 3" body lift. At 2" you are probibly going to have to extend everything you would with a 3".

A good kit will include most everything you need. But some things might need a little modification. ( simple things) IIRC the 4runners stock rear bumpers mount to the body, so no worries about lift brackets there.

I'm running 4crawler's 2in BL and it took around 4 hours to install. I wanted more tire clearance. The kit came with bumper brackets to raise the front, rear is attached. It also came with radiator brackets so it'll be in the right position and a steering extension. Great quality and product from Roger. Yeah the frame is a bit exposed, but nothing pond liner from home depot cannot fix, besides it makes it easier to change the oil filter and work underneath your rig.
