1FZFE engine removal question

Wondering if any experienced hands here can advise on this problem. I overhauled the head from my 94 80 series 1FZFE engine but then realize I have to take the engine out of the vehicle because the top of the engine block is pitted and will need work. This also means I need to lift the engine block without the usual lift points attached (I think)

I have been told there is also a decision to make as to whether to take out the engine complete with (auto) transmission or alternatively to separate the two at the bell housing and remove the engine block only.

I guess I could muddle through and work it all out the hard way but my repair manual is big on details of overhaul and repair work but omits the quite important bit of removing the engine. Can anybody give me a bit of a leg up here or refer me to a concise set of instructions online or available to download?

are there any empty bolt holes on the sides of your motor you can run a bolt through a chain?

That would be my next suggestion. But just make sure if you go that route, you use atleast 4 head bolts and consider those 4 head bolts trash after.

I think 4 head bolts is going to be extra rigging for nothing IMO, 1 in the front corner, 1 in the opposing rear corner will give you an even lift so long as you're centered on the chain between them. Separate the engine from the trans and it'll be easier to deal with.

If it were mine, I would do at least 4 bolts, if not 6. For one, that's a heavy engine any way you look at it. Second, if you're pulling up on vertical head bolts, you are only relying on the threads, not on a factory lift hook that is mounted with a horizontal bolt. Mounted horizontally, you will rely on the shear strength of the bolt, not on the threads.

It may be silly thinking, but I would much rather be super safe and have overkill, than have an inline 6 land on my core support or fender... Just my .02....
