Question 1999 4-runner SR5 tips, tricks, problems??

I just purchased a used 5-speed last week with 65,000 miles. Traded in my 1994, also 5-speed. It took my a while to find a 5-speed but I love it!

Anyhow, I just want to know from you longtime users, what should I be aware about with my new Runner? any recalls? typical deffects? tips & tricks? quick repairs? performance enhancers? issues? jumpy fuel gage? etc.... thanks!

I have read a lot about the 90 degree elbow trick and I will take this out on the weekend plus installing the Amsoil air filter.

Welcome to YT!

what should I be aware about with my new Runner?
Nothing, it's a Toyota.
any recalls?
nope.
typical deffects?
nah.
tips & tricks?
check out the Tech Write-Ups section.
performance enhancers?
see above answer.
jumpy fuel gage?
yeah, it's known to be a little screwy. just don't let it get below 1/8th of a tank and you'l be fine.

....plus installing the Amsoil air filter.
True-Flow is better.

Also, the yellow search button at the top of the page is AWESOME! Use it and you'll see why.

if you stick the key in the rear window, turn and hold for a few seconds, the window will move, dont think that im a retard, but i just found this out a few months ago, thinking it only went down with the fob which was stupid

Thanks for the info.

wjwerdna: I found out about the rear window fairly quick since I owned a 1994 Runner. I like the fact that the window rolls all the way down automatically without holding the key. I wish I could roll it all the way down with one push of the in-dash button.

Elton: the ISR modification looks like a good idea. What the you use as a replacement pipe. Did you go to the nearest muffler shop? Is it possible to install a flex intake hose that covers the whole length? I found a copper tubing (water rated) on McMaster-Carr that is 2.5" i.d. and 2.625" o.d. but costs about $85 for each 10 ft.

Thanks to all. I have used the yellow search link a lot, and you are right, it is very useful.

I did the deck mod and took 1 hour on Saturday. I did not use the mesh screen since I don't see its utility. I love the sound and as for performance I am not sure since I only drove the truck for one week since I bought it.

I am working on my own ISR mod version with common available parts. Will post an update in the future, if it works and looks neat!
