Greetings!

Can anyone help me identify what might be causing this squealing noise in my 4runner. It sounds like a loose belt but the noise is not as high pitched as a loose fan belt. The noise happens when I accelerate and and then release the gas. It appears to be coming from the bottom or the rear area of the car. Also, the noise is not constant, it happens sometimes and then goes away and will then come back. I recently had the timing belt, the tensioners as well as the belts replaced. Also, all the belts have been checked and they are new and tight.

Somone suggested U-joints may be bad? Anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

If it were me and I heard squealin noises coming from underneath or the rear area, I would immediately check the fluid levels in my differentials. Im not saying thats it but I would check that right away. The last thing you want is a dry pumpkin. It could be a bearing or a lot of things but it doesnt take much time to stick your finger in the diff.

 

Hi I have a 1998 toyota 4 runner 6cy 4x4 automatic, It started making a squealing noise when I would come to a stop, in nuteral or at idle. today at a red light it made a thump noise and wouldnt move in any gear so i shut it off and pushed off the road, then i tried starting again and won't even start now. Any suggestions what it can be.
