this and other toyota forums classifieds where people are parting out their trucks.

before you ask, I am 90% sure you are looking for a 4cyl 4.10 ratio 8" rear end aka 3rd member.

79-95 and it has to be a 4wd, 2wd rear ends were 7.5" but you might want someone else to confirm me. Has to come from most likely a manual trans truck as well.

On your door jam area there should be a sticker or plate there that says an axle code, look for the same code. It should look something like G292. I am not up on my axles codes to tell you what your is. Heck I dont even know what mine is off-hand which should in all actuality be the same as yours. And every single time I look for them I come up with this page http://www.off-road.com/toyota/tech/other/4_axles.html which no longer exists.

I am pretty sure that a v6 rear end is also a drop in fit but I am not 100% sure on that. Although it's not 100% the same as the 4cyl 3rd.

Also check out this place for parts. I have used them a few times and had pretty good luck. Is the axle bent or the gears just trashed? If its just gears I would just swap the 3rd member

Any 84-95 4WD PU rear axle, or 84-89 4Runner rear axle. 79-83 4WD PU isn't the same width, nor is a 90-95 4Runner(not to mention the coil springs not leafs). Auto or manual, V6/Turbo or 4cyl, makes no difference. The other important detail though, driveshaft compatability. Generally there's a driveshaft bolt hole pattern that's specific to the engine in the vehicle the rear axle came from. This isn't always the case though, so you might get lucky. If not, you'll have to swap the drive pinion flanges(no biggie).

Dammit! You scared me there. I was gonna pitch a fit if that page really was gone all the sudden. Thank god it's not.

Saving it to my computer as we speak, just in case it ever does though.

the thirds are a different width as well MudHippy? I know the entire rear axle is though. I guess by rear end I was assuming he was only looking for the third.

oh yeah and thanks, I guess the url just changed from there. Never noticed that before.

Oh and wouldn't an auto trans truck have the 4.30's and not the 4.10's? And the ones with the 31" tire option would have the 4.56's. All of these is why I had mentioned axle codes.

Well, as far as the gears go, you just have to go by the axle code(with the exception of the pre-84 4WD PUs which all had one gear ratio ONLY depending on which year(s), details below). And hope they're still the same/haven't been swapped already. Auto or manual, 4cyl or V6/Turbo, doesn't necessarily mean that it will have any particular axle code. However, if it's an 84-88 PU or 4Runner it's going to have 4.10s or 4.30s ONLY(well..maybe...as that's all there was for those years from the factory anyway. But there were 4.38s ONLY for 79, 3.90s ONLY for 81, 4.11s ONLY for 82, and 4.10s ONLY for 80 and 83 from the factory for those years. So 4.38s, 3.90s, or 4.11s could also possibly be found swapped into any 79-95 4WD PU or 84-95 4Runner rear axle in theory). Later years(as in 89-95)may have 4.10s, 4.30s, 4.56s, or 4.88s from the factory. Just as well, 5.29s or 5.71s could also possibly be found swapped into any 79-95 PU or 84-95 4Runner rear axle too, they just didn't come from the factory with them EVER.

The 79-95 4cyl and 86-95 V6/Turbo 3rds are all interchangeable, 79-95 PU or 84-95 4Runner. The 84-95 PU/84-89 4Runner rear axle housing and axleshafts are all the same width, as is the 79-83 PU rear axle housing and axleshafts(just slightly less wide than a 84-95 PU/84-89 4Runner rear axle housing and axleshafts, by ~3.5"). The 90-95 4Runner rear axles also have the same 4cyl or V6/Turbo 3rds as the 79-95 4cyl or 86-95 V6/turbo PU rear axles, but the rear axle housing and axleshafts are ~1/2" wider than the 84-95 PU/84-89 4Runner rear axle housing and axleshafts(and the housing also has coil spring mounts instead of leaf spring perches).
