1988 Toyota question

Hello!
I would like a validation from you guys/gals for buying parts for my 1988 toyota 4x4 3.0l. I have been going on all these truck sites and putting in all the info for make/model. There is no actual dropdown choice for 1988 toyota 4x4. There is always an option for 4runner. The owners guide says "Toyota 4wd and 4 runner. Would it be safe to buy 4runner parts for my toyota 4x4? I looked at numerous pictures of both online.. They both physically look the same, but the 4 runner has a fiberglass back.. Are there any hardware differences between the two? Anything I should avoid.

Thank you all for the help, this is a great site!

Toyota made (and still makes) a 4Runner and Pickup. They are 2 different body styles, but share a lot in common. Saying you have a "Toyota 4x4" is like saying I have a "Toyota car".
