1986 22re Sr5 CEL code 4
My truck runs great sometimes when it gets warm the cel comes on shortly after car starts to run very rich and then dies and cannot stay running untill it's cooled down. It doesn't over heat full tank of gas new battery new terminals going on soon new coolant no leaks of coolant anywhere . The code is for the sensor on top of the thermostat housing I snapped the wire awhile back but spliced in a new cable and I cleared the ecu but I'm still throwing a code for it

Any help with this CEL code would be helpful I don't know if it's the same code for all 3 temp sensors because I would assume I need to test all 3 before I buy all 3 of them. And if it is referring to all 3 sensors how can I test these sensors for defects. My engine is running extremely rich if my fuel gauge is right I got 18 miles on a 1/4 tank.
I am only driving to work and back which is about 5 mins away so my truck never even heats up before I kill it for another 9 hours. At this point I'm lost. I went and got a timing light to check the timing. got a compression tester to see if all my cylinders are performing right. I'm not loosing coolant I have 190° thermostat and Toyota red in there. I'm gonna change the oil this weekend and maybe change the plugs again they barely have 1k on them but they look kinda dirty not fouled just dirty with oil which is why I wana do the compression test.. I test my afm the only spec it failed on or should I say just wasn't within spec was the temp test. And the usual wear from the pin running back and forth on the plate has caused the ruts. So my guess even tho I'm not a mechanic (wish I was) the ecu is getting a wrong reading from the afm and the temp sensor is failing when the ecu is trying to pull info from the coolant sensor.
Has any one ever bought a remanufactured afm? What are your thoughts on it is there a way to convert to a Maf ?

So I replaced the sensor on top of the thermostat housing and cleared the ecu. No longer getting any codes my truck isnt dying on me any more just running really rich getting about 6 mpg
I am going to try and lean out my afm a notch or two. I threw a code for a o2 sensor a while ago
when my truck first ran rich. But I cleaned it up with TB cleaner put it back in haven't thrown a code for it again.

Drove around today and had been fighting with the same problems as before I'm really not sure what it is I do know that every time it does happen the Cel will come on and its that dang code 4 again I'm starting to think it's something on the ecu maybe? could rich bursts of gas be caused by this sensor ? O2sensor? Mal adjusted tps . I know its not adjusted right but would it happen randomly ? And cause this? Help please

Is it still just throwing the code 4? If so then that point to a bad splice or bad sensor. Or possibly a bad ecu but lets hope not. Here is a link to pirate4x4. If you are no familiar with the site. It's best to just read. If you ask less than perfect questions there you get flamed pretty hard.

Sounds like the part is not to expensive to get new though. Triple check your splice job score you buy anything though.

Ok sensor is new and splice job was perfect I've found that there are 3 sensors that trigger the CEL for code 4 so I've got the one on top of the thermostat housing replaced and new splice there is a green sensor on the front side of the engine below the upper intake. I just ordered a new sensor so we will see what happens Monday I wasn't getting any readings from it with a volt meter so I'm assuming it's dead . The connections on the sensor it self and the wire are really dirty with old oil so I'm gonna pick up some electric cleaner
