79-83 RARE parts thread ...
#141
Here's a few rare parts that I haven't stumbled across:
*Chrome headlight doors (in good condition)
*Side mirrors (The small plastic ones that come in black or chrome - preferred chrome)
*Rear view mirror (Original quality, not the cheap plastic one)
*Radio antenna
*Steering column shaft u-joints (I finally found them from Rock Auto - Beck Arnley part #1020288)
*Full chrome front bumper (the style one WITHOUT the bumper ends - full metal wrapped around to the fenders)
*Door sill trim
*Seat belt bolts (the original 11MM kind, not the 7/16-20 kind)
*Factory rear fender flares
*Grille emblems (that don't cost $80)
*Lock cylinder set (matching doors, ignition and gas door - WITH ONE KEY)
*And obviously a rust free, unmolested bed (gave up on that and ordered a fiberglass bed from Corey)
I'm sure there are more that I will think of, but these are the ones that I have come across in my build

That's an easy fix, just take the cylinders out of the doors, and have them matched to the ign. key at a key shop. Cost me 20 bucks for both doors and the gas cap door.

Is the bed a log bed by chance, and what color? The truck I'll probably get has one with a bad dent in the back.

Hi all - I'm new to Yotatech... Restoring '83 4x4 SR5... Looking for original chrome 15" rims & door panels. Any help greatly appreciated!
I have found many of the items other folks are looking for through Griffith Motors on ebay... Lots of OEM/NOS stuff for 1st gen... Most important w/b new dash - cannot find anywhere else.

JRB - I definitely spotted a few of the mud flap brackets while in Yota Jims yard in CO a month ago. He'd ship'em to you.
Kawa - G.M. is excellent... Found a few more items from them earlier today that Mike had failed to mention one of the times I was hitting him up for parts... I'd love to walk that storage room! I've researched NOS OEM parts pretty hard over the past 4 months - are there other yota dealers that still have parts? Or, did Griffith buy 'em all out!? Anyway - love what you did to the blue truck... Engine detail was awesome! Like others, I'm sure my son and I will use the work you did to do ours later this winter.... Also, saw pics of your blue beauty w/for sale in the window... Did you sell it?

Oh, I know they are good and I have bought a lot of parts from them, but I just like to selfishly keep them a secret until my truck is done so that I can score all the parts that I may need.
That picture of my truck with the for sale sign was from the day I bought it. Definitely not for sale but I suppose everything is for sale for the right price... And it's not a "Blue Beauty" anymore (never really was a beauty when it was blue - I hated that color). It's turning red these days:

And has a much better bed (I hated that stepside bed too)

BnY- how do I get a hold of Yota Jim to check for brackets, I bought a set of 84 brackets off E-bay that Will probably work but would prefer 83 brackets.
Kawa - like the red, my 83 was stock red, still has original paint

JRB - Yota Jim has a toyota only salvage yard... It is amazing! I stopped there on drive back from cali this summer after picking up my truck. His direct number is 303-505-5119... http://www.yodajims.com/Yoda_Jims/Home.html
He will have just about anything you can think of. I left there with the back of my truck full of goodies for $500. Your truck looks awesome in stock red! Good luck with the brackets! Let me know if you run across door panels, rims & also looking for the original stereo - upgrade/40 watt electronic model. I had it in one of my first toyotas.

Kawa - i like the red... Looks great! Also, wanted to let you know I read through you desmog post tonight... Great job! Love the pics - definitely gives me more confidence to just jump into dismantling mine.
Also, was going to ask you where you get your paint and supplies online? I've painted a few cars over the years. However - it has been over 10 years now and my equipment is a bit out of date. I'm currently putting in a vent in the garage so that I can work on the truck/hopfully paint too this winter.

rn45/46 4x4 wings/fenders
Hi
I am after buying a 1982 4x4 Hilux and it is missing everything. Still driving, no surprise there. I need some wings/fenders and they are advertised online, but when I try to buy them I get a no they are sold.
For now I need a offside wing/fender as my wing is rotten.
I just want to keep her alive for now and use it while I build my house and then work on it after I'm finished using it for work.
