Tug'o'War My Taco vs. Dodge V10 4x4
Today, after tiring of my somewhat disliked fellow worker's persistent babble against my '05 Taco, and all "Jap Crap", we arranged a lunch time Tug'o'War. His '98 Dodge 3/4 ton 4x4 V10 against my Taco. I won twice! I didn't even lock my rear diff. Granted, it was in a field behind my shop and I have mudders and he had all terrains, but the point is, he shut up!!! I told him "Let's do it again tomorrow. I want video!" I am feeling better about my truck now!!

Perhaps not, but by that rationale, it's not a good idea to pull anything. Remember, it just boils down to weight. I wouldn't have tried it on anything but a loose surface. I will say this too, I regularly have to pullout our forklift when it's get stuck in our field, and that is much more of a challenge than this was. It really felt quite easy. But no, you don't want to do it everyday.

well my thought is when you are towing, its dead weight. this is weight where force is moving the other way. i guess ive been living in a cave for a while, cuz ive never heard of this. but, loose surface, given the situation, i guess i may try it myself haha. sounds like fun, but a little scary too.

Well, it is a little scary, to be honest, I guess it's kind of like racing, or better yet, a challenging obstacle on a trail. "Will I break it, or will I make it?" I was very prepared to loose. I wasn't prepared to break though, so I'm glad I didn't.

I had my '89 pickup out ice fishing a few years back. Long story short, this dude in a F-150 was stuck in the snow. So I kindly pulled off the plowed "road" and asked him if he needed help. He looked at my rig (rusty, 22-re, 5 sp., you get the picture) and laughed, saying I had no chance of breaking him loose. So I bet him $50 that I could. I won the bet, and just for good measure, towed his POS Ford all the way up the ramp without stopping, off the lake. I broke it from the snow EASILY, and he was stuck pretty good (he was an idiot, obviously). Then on the landing, I laughed at him and told him in great detail what I would spend my new fifty bucks on. Truth be told, I would have pulled him out for free if he didn't laugh at my rig.

Chevrolet, which invented "posi" (which is an abbreviation for their brand name of limited slip called Positraction and is an incorrect term for other brands of limited slip), currently equips most of their 4wd trucks with a wheelspin actuated locker (comes with the Z71 package).
Ford has their brand of limited slip and so does Dodge. And Dodge also equips the Powerwagon with selectable lockers.
Just because one wheel spins doesn't mean that there is no limited slip differential. All that means is that one wheel lost enough traction that the amount of torque needed to spin the other wheel was more than enough to overcome the friction of the clutches (like the F150 on YouTube).
Also, it looked very much to me like the Tundra on YouTube was in 4wd. There should have been more wheelspin than that, whether it won or not. I also noticed that there is very little shown of what the Tundra's front wheels are doing. My question is, was there at least one front wheel spinning on the Tundra while one or both rears were spinning? You can't see enough of the front wheels to tell.
That's not to say the Tundra isn't a better truck, I'm just saying that the video, put out by a Toyota dealer, looks suspect.
And a better way to test in 2wd would be to have the exact same tires on each truck. That would rule out any variation in tires and would test just the trucks themselves. Tires could have made all the difference in the world.
I also watched a few other YouTube videos involving the Tundra. The Tundra didn't always win.
