Tacoma Bed Cover
I'm really wanting a bed cover of sorts for my 05 tacoma. I hate having stuff get wet in the back when it rains unexpectedly. I'm curious if anyone has any on thier rigs, that they'd like to share experiences about. I do have some criteria I have to meet with my choice...
1. I want it to be either roll up or fold up. That way if I'm away from home and decide I need to haul something large, I'm not stuck with the question of what to do with the large solid tonneau cover.
2. Price is always important.. I'd like cheap, but will pay for quality....
3. Waterproof or at least very very close. I know the world isnt perfect and things may leak a little, but water protect is what I'm doing it for.
4. I like the idea of something that locks, but its not required....
5. I'd prefer whatever it is when its in the "retracted position" it takes up as little room as possible....
Now, I've done some searching and found these:
1. http://shop.agricover.com/do/category/rollupcovers
Basic rollup cover.... not hard, and could tear... around $500. Takes up very little room when rolled up, doesnt lock, and sides are held down by velcro...
2. http://rolltopcover.com/customerphotos-toyota.htm
Rollup cover, but a hard one made from lexan not vinyl or other soft material. Hard means no tears, they say it can support plenty of weight (200 lbs) and is lockable. Price unknown for now.

My current favorite and forerunner. Its a hard cover that folds instead of rolls up. The roll up ones like the previous all roll up into a canister which takes up room at the front of the bed, so you cant really load all the way up to the front of the bed. Now with this, it folds up so you can. Also hard cover, and lockable. its also easily removable which is a plus.
The only problem with folding or solid roll up is the lack of real good waterproofing... the will leak a little around the edges which is a trade off.....
well, I'm looking for opinions and any experience. anyone that has photos, please post up!

when I first got my truck I bought an Extang soft bed cover that had the frame that would tilt up. I tried to find something similar on ebay but did not see a listing. It was $250'ish. It was great, simple install and I could get if off by myself. It did not leak at all. It was a good product. Downside was that I ended up with a couple of small tears that I was able to fix myself (advantage of knowing how to sew) and of course any tweeker with a rope wrench could get through it easily. I still have it in the garage.
Sorry checked the computer but I did not see any pictures of it installed on the truck...
If I did not need a canopy I would go with one of the tri fold hard covers.

Already throwing money at that thing, huh?
Hope it sticks!
As far as a bed cover goes, good luck man.
Hopefully you are less indecisive than me.

One of the executives at the bank I work at had the fold up kind and it was awesome. Best part? 100% waterproof or your money back.
They have different kinds - roll-up, fold, solid, etc...
From what I hear they can be a little $$ but if you're willing to spend the extra dough for something quality, all the research I've done has pointed to these folks.
When I first got my DC I wanted a shell, then I wanted a lid...now I'm looking for a tool box.
I'll let you know what I actually end up getting.
Good luck man!

I am going to leave mine open for now, I'm still searching for the perfect tool box...no luck yet...especially with $$ being as limited as it is right now with my new job and all.

I dont mean to jack this thread, but on a related note,
are there any brands, other than truxedo, that would allow me to keep the bedrails?
If i wanted to keep the bed rails and put on a hard top, is there a way to do it? & will it seal up front?
Sorry for a newb question.
never had a pick up before, always suvs...
thanks
