The Inchworm transfer case will replace your existing transfer case so do keep this in mind. This obviously means you will lose some functionality compared to the stock transfer case but you will gain a bit by the lower gear in the transfer case.

Adding the crawl box between the transmission and the transfer case will give you a greater lower gear. Obviously adding the crawl box will require you to relocate your fuel tank or shorten the tank as the crawl box will push the transfer case into the fuel tank.

Good luck!

do you lose the AWD torsen dif mode
or do you lose the e-selector switch

i'm only in low off-road so a lower gear sounds
pretty cool

LEADfoot, if you replace your transfer case w/ an aftermarket one such as Inchworn or Atlas you will lose the torsen limited diff which enables you to drive in 4HI on the pavement. e-selector switch? sorry but you have a 4th gen 4runner which does not have an electronic locker. Now if you're thinking e-selector switch as in center diff switch well you lose that as well since that's all built into the transfer case.

good luck

With this set-up you should not need to relocate the fuel tank even with the crawl box installed. Basically it's the older style gear driven transfer cases flipped to the left sided. You will lose the shift on the fly 4WD.......

You will also need to do something about the front hubs, to disengage them etc. Good news, you will gain MPG without driving both wheels!

Having had an EVIL low range on my FJ40 I can honestly say this mod will make a rookie look like a rock god (take it from someone who knows). There is nothing like going 3mph in 1st gear at REDLINE! Now, if you are not in rocks though, I am not sure that lower gears will be a huge beni. Personally I would love a 4:1 case and 4.56 dif gears. Shame we cannot keep the torsens, it is so nice for 90% of the driving most of us do.
