Need Help new Tacoma package/option?

I am real close to purchasing a 2006 long bed double cab, 4x4, TRD off road equipped.
HOWEVER
1. my dealer is claiming that in the mid atlantic region- Virginia- the longbed dbl with TRD off road package is not available in our region. any body know any different? is my dealer full of crap and just trying to move what they have on their lot? I have been told by the dealer that the TRD off road package is only available on a shortbed dbl cab. any info is appreciated
2. does anyone out there have any experience with custom ordering a Tacoma from the factory? meaning you decide to wait for them to build it with your option preferences? the dealership is trying to claim Toyota will probably not make the vehicle I want.
I am starting to believe they are making stuff up so I will purchase what's on the lot.
damn, this is part of the reason why I buy used vehicles from private owners rather than deal with car dealers. you don't know what to believe....

According to Toyota website for the southeast, you can only get the long bed in the 4X2 configuration. Check out the site.

I searched by zip codes for a state in each region and I guess I am out of luck. it sure soundd like a bunch of bull from the salesguy at the time.
live and learn
I went to www.buyatoyota.com and the long bed,dbl cab with TRD sport package is all that is available. The TRD sport has the limited slip but having never had a yota with the locker I wanted to have one ( stock) badly.
Honestly , not much rock crawling on the flat land of the VA coast so I am sure the limited slip will do just fine.

anaybody have any experience ordering a yota from the factory before??

same experience in state of NY

I too am looking at a Tacoma (to replace my Dodge RAM 1500 short box w/ V-8 318).
In the state of NY the TDR Off-Road package is not available with the long box (only the TDR-Sport package is available w/ the long box), that is why i have decided to go with the sport package....

Also you can not "order" a specific vehicle with Toyota as you can with some of the american vehicle manufacturers... Toyota requires that the dealer indicate the desired vehicle and then they may be able to obtain it in their routine stock vehicles or find one.... but it isn't a gaurentee that they will be able to receive that specific vehicle. The dealer informed me that he believes Toyota plans to change their corporate policy in regards to this in the future (hopefully).

Nope, can't even get the Off Road package here in the North West. Why do you need a long bed anyway?

i too was told you no longer can custom order a truck because it cost to much to shut the assembly line down to make a custom truck.

I have extra cab long bed, 4x4 f150 and use the bed to haul 4whlr, landscape mulch, etc
so the longbed is a must for me
I hate to part ways with my f150 but now may be the best time to trade it in or sell it before gas prices rise again

Have your dealer do a search for available vehicles at other dealerships. If they make the truck, you will find it somewhere. All depends on how much you want to spend. It will cost you $$ (800-1200) to ship it to you but you will save in transit time from the factory. Burt Toyota here in Denver has a few Tacos with the Off Road package. Locking rear diff will probably be easier for you to find than a limited-slip. If you do find your new Taco in another state, you can always fly out and drive it home. I did that with a Camry we bought in TX a month ago. You save a bunch of money on shipping and get a cheap weekend vacation out of it. Plus you feel better because you're not settling when buying a $30,000 vehicle Good Luck!
