Need help with 4.0 TACO engine replacement

2007 tacoma/ auto/4wd/ 4dr

My buddy overheated his taco and the engine gases are leaking into the coolant system......the cylinder is drivers side, front cylinder.
The truck actually runs pretty well but he is thinking of replacing the engine.

2,400 for 90,000 salvage yard replacement engine /'keeps his engine to resell.

My question is how much do you think his old engine is worth in parts or as a whole with documentation of it running etc.
240,000 miles

Thanks.
Kenny

So... his engine needs a head gasket, and he instead wants to spend thousands to buy and install a replacement engine?

Brilliant.

That's what I'm getting out of it.

If I were him, I'd do a head gasket job. Why replace your motor when you can just fix the issue?
