Question HitchGate Spare Tire Carrier

Has anyone bought or seen this spare carrier? I looked at the TireGate website, and I'm considering buying one. Does anyone out there have any positive or negative feedback on it, or any other spare tire options?

I'd run a CBI version before I'd run that. The TireGate one sticks too far out.

CBI Version

Boy. Ditto what Taco said. I ran one of those as a bike rack and it sucks just because it stuck out so far IMO.

I too think it sticks out a bit to far.
The one advantage to the Tiregate is that you would still be able to use the reciever for towing or a recovery point.

For the CBI, it is a well built product, I have one that I bought for my '81 Trekker that had been used on a 3rd Gen 4runner (each unit is supposedly built for each vehicle)

It is nice to have the rear cargo area back...
It flips up and down very easily and with the intergrated high lift jack mount it will make access very easy.
It does stick out a little more than I thought that it might:

I had a friend tweek it in somewhat, not sure if I like how it came out:

Not sure if I totally like how the angle came out, but the welding work was free (THANKS Todd ) it is still better than straight up...
It is sturdy but wobbles a bit in the reciever. Would I buy another one, probably not.

Interesting product... sticks out way too far for my taste.
The pick-up gate replacement models [VT/HT] look good though.
