I saw a bunch of them first hand when I was in the Philippines last November. They look even better in person. My mom's friend's brother-in-law had one and I got a good look at it at the airport. He had the turbo-diesel version too.

I just bought one, with a 2.5L Diesel Last Saturday. Got a nice canopy bedliner and little "pimp my ride" crome covers for lights and stuff. Its hard to find a good bull bar, though, in Egypt. I just bought a new horn (same wimpy horn here in Egypt) and am searching for Corey's tech writeup on horn installation, but can't find it. ANyhow, if really interested, you could get one from the UK and not pay the VAT (taxes) on it there and ship it to you. I know the pricing for shipping a vehicle from Egypt is $2.5k, so it should be cheaper from England. I've lovin' this truck!

Cool trucks and so is the SUV counterpart, the Fortuner. Saw both in Grand Cayman last month! Google them for more pictures. For some reason, I'm thinking they are based on last gereration 4R and Taco mechanicals though. Anyone know for sure?

I was going to bring my Porsche's from Hong Kong to LA but there were too many compliance issues and resale may not have been too good. I remember we looked into the issue of 15yrs but from wjhat I recalled it was not an issue unless I was simply bringing it into the states for resale.
I'm not sure about in the US but in many countries grey market vehicles are not easy to sell - people are suspicious.
Just my 2cents.

The Hilux is on the previous, prior to 2005, Tacoma/Hilux chassis. Fully boxed, but its a bit smaller of a truck.
As I'm sure we all know, the FJC, 4R, GX470 and Taco are on the Prado 120 frame - it gets its name from the LC Prado that it was first used in.

Hilux V's Tacoma
G'day all,
I haven't posted here in bloody ages so after recently gettin back on and reading bout the Luxi's thought Id put in my 2 cents worth.
Here in Australia the hilux's have been around for years, but that new one you had a pic of the engine is bloddy terrific awesom fuel economy out of the 3.0 D4D diesel engines, my friend regularly gets 8 litres per 100km whilst driving round. I'll let you Yanks convert that as Im not too good with numbers.,
The new Hilux's downfall is that it is way too low under the front, very easy to bash. we get 35-40mm lift kits for them here and thats around 1700-2300 dollars and if you want the 3 or 4" with drop down brackets like the superlift or procomp kits your paying 4,000 dollars and up. so its not too popular to raise them that high here due to the cost, that and anything over 2" in height extra than standard need to be engineered by the traffic authorities now and thats a bummer because us Aussies look at what you Yanks get away with over there with your mods and think to ourselves...."How the hell are they allowed to drive that on the road?"
anyway, if you need more hilux info let me know.
Here's my truck by the way -

2003 Hilux 3.4 V6 2" suspension lift, 1.5 inch bodylift on the way, not sure if 285's will fit
By the way, how similar are the chaassis between the Tacoma and Hilux's between 1998-2004?

Here in australia Hilux's are everywhere - I got me a 2003 3.4 V6 Dual Cab 4x4 and am happy with it. except for the torsion bar ifs that limits front suspension travel - 4" lift kits for hiluxs here are very expensive around 3000 aussie dollars and up, so therefore not many get fitted.
I wish we had the coil over setups like the tacomas. everyone here absolutely loves the Taco's and wishes they sold them here.
Heres one somebody here in australia modified with a solid axle swap and fitted 35's to it. I dont know if he ended up getting it registered or just uses it offroad but it look spretty tough.

Here in australia any lift over 2" in height requires an engineers report and certification and that is a bummer as they are hard to get and can end up costing alot of money. Many people take the risk and just lift their trucks anyway and keep driving hoping the cops wont pull them over.
anyway, if ya got some more question feel free to ask

Hey Max,
nice trucks, I like them. I've also heard good things about the D4D diesels from my friends in Europe. A lot of people want them here, but Toyota claims there is no market for it.
I am also amazed what drives around here sometimes, but here in Canada there are regulations and every so often the hand out vehicle inspection notices to suspect vehicle owners.
Then everything has to be by the rules, which can involve a lot of work when te vehicle is lifted a lot.
Maximum bumper height is one of them. Also, officially you need a vehicle inspection if it's lifted more then 4". That's not really enforced though.

Hey mate,
since the above post I went and bought me a new shape hilux with the D4D engine and auto.
Ive lifted it 3 inches, thou the fronts dropped a bit because of the ARB bar, but im getting the front spaced up to get that 3 inches back.
Running 285/75x16 tyres and a few other things, heres a few pics starting with how she looks now and some action shots-

The D4D is a beautiful engine with heaps of low down torque and theres a bunch of mods you can do to power them up if ya can afford it.
