Question Help: stock '05 crossbar removal

anyone have a manual for a 4th gen or '05?

or for that matter...

anyone know how to remove the rear roof rack rail covers so that I can get the stock crossbars out? They were off last night when I bought the car but I don't want to mess them up pulling them off... anyone...please Help!!

Use a flathead. It'll take abit (like a few minutes). Use some cloth so you don't scratch anything up.

You can use a knife if you're careful. They're just abunch of clips underside (4 I think) so that should give you some idea.

Good luck

thank you.

Thanks what i thought after some prying and jimmying [with a cloth] . 4 total [e.g. 2 per side] or 4 each side? I can pop the front two (one each side) but the piece was bending a lot and I didn't want to split it.

So basically, if I can pop both clips on each side, it should just lift off? just want to make sure it's not also connected by the 2 hex head bolts under the rail bars. GT thank you much, you know if I was superman I wouldn't need to ask these questions. As I could see the inner workings.

One can only dream.

Here's a quote from another user:

"To take the caps off you need a small puddy knife (metal) or some other flat surface tool (larger than a screw driver). You insert the tool between the rubber seal and the pastic cap. Slowly and carefuly you wiggle the knife up and down and across. While doing this you use your fingers to pull off the cap. There are four small hooks holding on the cap. The first one took about 10 minutes to get off, the second about 5. They reattached in seconds. The bars came off easily."

good luck!

muchas gracias

Thanks, I'll give it a shot when it gets light out. I was trying to thing of what I could use since the shaft of a flat head is too big and leads to bending of the plastic cover. I've got a rigid putty knift that ought to do the trick (also considered a mini wonderbar, slim jim, and end of a metal yard stick)

But for now, off with the running boards!

PS. when you mentioned knife earlier, I was thinking: bowie knife? No too thick, maybe a bread knife or a carving knife would do the trick...but then, no, too sharp and high to potential to hurt, scratch, wreck something including myself. Cheers.
