Electronic compass/outside temp display

Electronic compass/outside temp display
A little while ago, I was riding around exploring the northern New Mexico desert. I looked up and noticed my compass/outside air temp display had quit working. The display was totally dark. I had been bouncing around some, but not all that much, and no worse than usual.
Everything else is working, and since something like that would most likely share a fuse with something else, I don't think it's a blown fuse.
Has anyone experienced this? What should I check? Is there a common problem with the display that I can look for? I've never had it apart.

I hear they're common to go out, but I honestly have no clue as to what goes out on them
it may be easily repairable if you've got a steady hand with a soldering iron
Google search might reveal a little detail on the issue

It's been a while, but I never found anything on them that gave any useful information. And it looks like it's a pain to remove. Maybe soon I'll find the time to give it more effort to take it apart.

maybe a 10 minute job, providing you have a soldering iron (an IRON (pen type) like 30-50 watts, don't use a GUN type with the trigger; you'll burn the resistor up, they get too hot)it's also worth noting, if you get in there and the problem isn't as obvious (like a resistor about to fall off like my photo above), heat up and reflow the solder on those 510 resistors anyway. they could just have stress cracks in the solder and the joint could be week or incomplete
also, I added a little new fresh solder to mine when I did it

keep us posted
