Bittersweet Day Yesterday...Replaced 95 4Runner with 2011 Tacoma

So after 15 years, she's finally gone from the driveway...

And in her place...

2011 Taco w/ TRD offroad package, 124 miles on it.
The taco seems great so far. Much smoother, more comfortable ride but I kinda miss the rough, truck like handling of the 4runner. This is going to be a much better daily driver, which is what my needs are moving towards.
Just thought I'd share. Excited about joining the taco crew!

Thanks man. Yeah it's gonna pretty much be a stocker. I might make a couple small upgrades but no lift/suspension work planned. I need it to be good on the highway. If it would have been reasonable to keep the 4runner just for a trail rig/beater I would have, but I just don't have the ability to have 2 autos, plus my bike right now. Too much potential for relocating in the near future unfortunately.

Yeah it is. There was no way I was gonna get a 4x2. It's also got the push button rear diff locker, and 5-speed auto.
I think it's kinda crazy they even have the TRD "OFFROAD" package on a non 4WD vehicle.

Where didja get it? If Boulder Toyota, if you ever need service work ask for Jacob. He's awesome and heads up his service team.

Na, I'm actually back in Nashville for a while so got it at the local dealer. Guess it's time to change my location under my avatar. Had my 4runner in at Boulder Toyota a few times over the years though.

Nice tacoma for sure but im sure you'll be going back and getting another early toyota again. They are just in a different league. Offroad-wise anyway.

Do they offer a manual tranny with the 2011?

Yes. You can get a Dcab in a 6speed. Apparently not with the long bed (6ft) though.

The 5spd autos are sweet none-the-less. Not like the conventional automatics. You can pretty much shift through all the gears like a manual. And when you need to down shift for high grades, its just a slap away

that may very well be true but at the end of the day there is no clutch and therefore it is an auto-tragic

I feel your pain/joy; traded my 1998 4Runner for a 2011 Tacoma yesterday as well. The 4Runner was such a great vehicle, we were best buds... The Tacoma has been phenomenal, so I'm hoping to take it to 181,000 miles as well. My wife says it suits me well

me too - we lost 70% of the 95-00's on the road to crushers and the 01-04's that are around with new frames are so inflated, its almost a better deal to buy new unless you can get a great deal.

I will keep my 94 though. No garage and with two bikes and a 4 wheeler It'll just be another beautiful lawn ornament that gets to play on the weekends.

Wanted to comment. I continue to this day miss my '90 runner. In my opinion, one of the nicest sitting of the shelf 4x4 vehicles. It had such a nice stance and the sky was the limit on what you could do.

My '04 runner is awesome. But..... I miss that red beast!
