About to get the '06 Tacoma 4x4. Off-road or Sport?!?

I currently have an '02 Tacoma 4x4 with the TRD locking rear diff.

I really like all the aspects of the TRD Sport (06 Taco), but would miss the locking rear diff. My question is, if you get the locking rear diff on the Off-Road package, is it just an open diff when not locked?

Wouldn't the limited slip diff still help during those situations when you would lock the rear diff anyway?

I wish they offered the locking rear diff on the Sport Edition, my decision would be made up already.

Thanks.

Access Cab (Xtra)

I think I'm leaning towards the Sport.

I've used the locking rear diff about 10 times on my '02. It helped, but I think the limited slip will help quite a bit also in the same situations.

Plus, I'm moving my 285/75R16 wheels/tires over from my other truck.

Sway-Away 2.5 coilvers and Deaver leafpacks will soon be installed!

doesn't the sport come with 17" wheels, or do you know the 16's will fit? i don't think you can go wrong with either one GL!

Yeah, make sure you know your 16" wheels will fit. If the Tacoma sport is anything like the 4runner sport in it's brake usage, it's calipers are WAY too big for most 16" rims.

This is too easy. Get the Off Road package because it will have a higher resale value to people who will eventually use the truck the way it is supposed to be used. That locking rear (I had an '03 DC that had it and it rocks, I modified it to work regardless of 4WD engagement or low range selection) is awesome.

I enjoy my sport and unless you are going to really be thrashing a brandnew truck the LSD will get you most places you need to go. I have been impressed with mine and the way it engages and how quickly it does.

just placed the order ('06 Access Cab TRD Off-road Tacoma)

I had to order it because it's impossible to find a silver, Off-Road, 6MT, 6-Disc in the Bay Area.

I really wanted the color matched bumper, mirrors and hood scoop, but I realize I can simply order the hood and have it painted at my cost ($300). I'm planning on replacing the grille also, so having it paint matched can be done for less money.

They absolutely could not find a 6MT / Sport, and they said they've never seen an Access Cab / Sport / 6MT.

Anyway, if anybody is looking for brand new stock wheels / tires, email me. They'll be available in 4-6 weeks.

Are the sport brakes really that much bigger than the off-road brakes?

I don't know, I was just speculating. Just go down to the dealer and take a look.

I don't think the brakes are different on the Tacomas like they are on the 4runner.
