4runner brake upgrade? - similar to tacoma/tundra swap

Does a brake upgrade exist similar to the popular tacoma/tundra caliper swap?

Or has anyone tried anything from another aftermarket source?

Not sure about the 4th gen 4Runers, which I assume is what you're asking about considering the forum you posted in, but the 3rd gen 4Runner calipers can be replaced with Tundra Calipers.

Yeah I have 03 runner, I did the tundra caliper mod on my 02 tacoma and love especially since I'm 305/16rim tires. I'm getting ready to lift my 4runner and add in tires and wheels and was looking for a similar brake mod.

Did the sport edition or Xrunner have bigger brakes?

My '02 "badlands edition" 4Runner came with 16" wheels and the bigger brake package. I still warped rotors. After 2 sets, I upgraded to the 2005 Tundra 231mm calipers and rotors to match. It's been one of my best upgrades so far.

ebay had some brake package upgrade for the 4runner, i was checking out the drilled and sloted combo with pads both front and back, all together was 250+50 shiped i think, these were brakemotive rotors and powerstop pads, from wat i knoe, powerstop makes good pads, i bet this is a nice upgrade for my sportedition, with the pads and rotors, but its not comparable to the stoptech big brake kit.

I went with the cross drilled/slotted rotors with carbon kevlar pads for the rear, got them from wheelers off-road. soon as they show up i will post about how they are. two rotors and four pads ran $310 with no sales tax, seems pretty reasonable to me.

I have 03 limited (not sure if it has the sport brakes package, wonder if the sports brakes have some type of number printed on the casting?) it's running 17" wheels. If it's not running the sport upgrade, i'm wondering if it would accept the bigger rotor and caliper from the sport edition?

The SE has bigger brakes and should be able to be swapped out easily. Has anyone done this?

As an FYI - drilling / slotting rotors is about as "ricey" and useless as you can get. Neither of these things has any function.

These people offer a brake upgrade kit... I ordered my front rotors (centric) from them, good people to deal with and the rotors were much better than OEM. My OEM rotors had been turned a couple of times, but even the tech commented on how much heavier the new ones were.

As a search will turn up... If you have the '03 LTD w/ 17" wheels, you still use the SR5 (16") brake parts. You can hunt around and find the actual disc measurements, your local parts store can be wrong.

Dam....that's pricey $$$$....more learning towards swapping out the SR5 brakes for the sport if it's possible.

brake upgrade

Most just go with brembo blanks for $150 for the tundra upgrade mod to a 4runner or tacoma 3rd gen.
