2006 tacoma solid axle swap

is this a retarded pipe dream or is it possible? single cab, 5 speed, 4 cylinder, and i'd like more durability and ease of maintenence for some medium duty wheeling.

I'd like to get all my stuff from as few places as possible and im on a budget. I have basic fab skills and im not planning on actually doing this for a while. any companys/ link or input specific to the late model solid axle swap? something tells me this will be a little more complex that a mid 90s yota axle swap. what do i need to know?

It's possible, but more complex...

Have to solve some steering issues as well as frame issues. Your Tacoma has a DS transfer case drop, where "standard" Toyota solid front axles are setup for a PS drop.

Anything is possible... just have to research your options a bit.

Welcome to YT.

thank you much. im pretty determined to do this and in no hurry. Ive searched the web for companies that make a kit to get you started but no luck.

I gather I'm pretty much on my own for this one unless the aftermarket sees a lot of people ripping off parts on their almost brand new trucks...

what steering and frame issues do you speak of?

I do not have direct knowledge of newer model axle swaps, but it's my understanding that you'll have to get a hold or a steering gear box off a LC as your current steering (rack and pinion) will not translate to the solid axle.

This guy has done one:

More details here:

Should be a very similar conversion as to what you are looking to do.

The most popular one out there is the Demello truck. It's been featured in all kinds of mags.
