2006 4runner: 4wd won't engage

I went out today and found the my 4wd won't engage. The light just blinks. I took it up to the dealership and they ran a check and nothing. Can anyone help? Is there any thing I can do to get my 4wd to engage.

If you press the 4wd button, and the lights blink, then you need to either:

1. Brake lightly (press and let go; repeat a few times)...this will engage the 4wd system, OR

2. Shift into Neutral and then back to Drive; repeat if necessary.

It isn't normal to have to do all that is it? There must be something wrong with the system. I have the same problem with my Sequoia. Took it to the dealer, they said it is maybe caused by one of my front tires worn more than the other. sounded strange to me.

It's not a button it is a stupid dial. Anywho, my wife's '06 sometimes has trouble engaging. Just put it in neutral BEFORE you turn the dial to 4hi that helps. After that there shouldn't be an issue.

As per the manual it suggests MONTHLY engagement for atleast 10 miles to keep stuff lube up.
