2005 V8 4Runner Maintenance/Longevity

Hi all,

Asking this question for a friend who against my recomendation just picked up a 2005 V8 4Runner with 60k miles on it. Only reason I recommended against it is because she has absolutely no need for a V8 (tows 0% and drives aprox. 40,000+ miles a year...sales job). They had the exact same truck on the lot in a V6 (for $5.5K less) but she picked the V8...

I had the V6 in my FJ and 05 Taco but I know nothing about the V8s so my question is, how is the maintenance on them (she is not mechanical at all so all work will be by the dealership) and how durable/reliable are they? Generally speaking. Will these engines hold up to the high mileage she is going to put on it?

Thanks!

Is it the 4.0L or the 4.7L?

Thats a great engine. With proper maintenance (changing oil, spark plugs, filters, belts, etc) it will last 300K+ I have a friend who has 400K on his.

It's just like any other Toyota engine.

I've seen them in the 300-400K range. Just make sure to keep up on maintenance, and change the timing belt every 90k. Thats the only downfall of that engine. It's the only Toyota engine with a timing belt that's also an interference engine.
