2004 4runner brakes questions

we have a 2004 v6 sr5 4runner. the front rotors are warped really bad. I check and the cheapest toyotas are $235 each and the auto stores want $185 each. Does someone know of they make a performance rotor that will last longer than the stockers?

Next: I tow my car on a trailer with this vehical sometimes to the tracks. I have noticed that the back seems to kinda be wabbly. I was thinking that the tires on it are not really tow rated and they could be the reason for it. It has the tow package with the truck, and the weight is abotu 3/4s to the limits. So I knwo it's ok to tow. Anyway, any thoughts?

final. Do we have discs on our rear axles? I never looked but I was just wondering because i'm going to have to do the fronts and wanted to kow about the backs too. If they are drum then i knwo that i don;t have th check them till liek 60k and right now we only have 34k on the truck.

As a general rule, drilled rotors tend to crack around the holes over time. Slotted are better. Remember that the purppose behind slotted/drilled rotors are for degassing and to some extent water drainage. You need to weight up whether you really need this "benefit". On my track cars (Porsches) I used these but would not bother with a truck although with towing it may be a viable addition. Are you using a brake controller on the trailer at 3/4 capacity?

Some wobbly towing problems are caused by improper weight balancing of the trailer/load. You need a certain amount of tongue weight, loading the rear of the tow vehicle. You will want between 10-30% of the total trailer/load weight, to be on the tongue, pushing down on your trailer hitch. The heavier the load, the higher the %.

Can't help you with the brakes; but for those prices, it seems like you could get Brembo rotors.

Check with this guy: http://www.toyota-4runner.org/showth...replace+engine

He is very familiar with the inner workings of the engine and once you read the thread you'll understand why. Hey may already have the part you needed sitting on a shelf...
