2003 Lifted with XREAS (Poser Pix)
Just thought I would post a few photos of my Rev-Tek lift with XREAS. I am still using the XREAS shock set up and without problems at this point. I'll be getting around to extending my mounts, keeping it the way it is or going to Downeys within a few weeks. I'm not sure at this point which way to go.
The tires are 265-70-17 Wranglers on Allied sim beadlocks 8.0 inches with a 12mm offset and 4.5" bs. These pics are just thrown in here, no real organization or layout, sorry!
Adam: I'll send you a couple of pics of where I installed the rear brake line extension bracket. I almost limited myself and the amount of brake line to follow the movement of my axle. The extension goes above the gas tank on the first segment of the line. Since a shop is lifting, you may only want to check that you'll have enough brake line to accomodate any extra wheel travel away from the original mounting spot. Don't want to break that.
Doug M.
Stock Pic
Lifted and new wheels and tires, black roof rack and yes I know I need to lose the running boards. I'm Just waiting on sliders.
Posin': A friend sent me that JP plate

Look I found a non lifted Runner!
Buttshot
I got only 37" in the front
CV joint

Lifted as you would a non-XREAS truck

Thanks,
I didn't realize how small until I found one to park next to at the courthouse. Once lifted I had been huntin' for a photo op to compare height without photo chopping two pics together.

Doug,
This is HUGE!
After all the talk about XREAS being non-liftable, you have gone and done it!
What are your driving impressions after the lift? Your CV's hardly look flexed at all. Look forward to the brake line extensions pics.
Also, did you try the wheels w/o center caps? It looks good w/o-that's how I had it.
Big kudos on being the first! What a huge difference compared to a stock 4R! geez, nice parking job by the Caddy
I can't wait to see the Daystar one Sedonaz!

Gator,
you are right about the grey cladding- it makes the 4R look longer and lower.
BUT, look at the roof and front bumper height. 3" is ALOT of height! That's the difference between no scratches and a crunched bumper!
Doug,
I was thinking- you mention you only have 37" but remember Lance has 285's. Doesn't that count for a bit more? Also, Lance's coilovers seem to be giving more height?

Brakeline extension:
This is what Downey had to do when they lifted the rear:
The ABS lines that is found right above the rear axle had to be lengthened. The way they did this was simple made a longer bracket that holds the line and just mounted it accordingly. Looks to be like 2" or so in length of the extension. This is somewhat similar to the 3rd gen's rear brake line extension mod.
The Rear Disc Brakes Lines that is found on the rear control arm (i think that's what it's called... the one that runs lengthwise along the frame from the mid frame to the axle) where it just runs along that part. You actually need to extend the brake line using a 12" brake line extension.
Other than that, the rear is fine. The front doesn't require any brake line extension at all
Doug:
Keep in mind that I have coilovers so I ended up cranking up the front alot. Billy when he first installed the spacer was not happy w/ the overall lift of his setup so he ended up adding additional spacers to give more lift. One other option of you need more lift up front is to install the bottom spacer that Daystar will be providing as that is probably your only bet. I'm not sure how "safe" it will be to stack spacers so...
FirstToy:
After my lift, I had 37.5" in the front so Doug's 37" isn't that bad. This was w/ my stock tires too. Adding the 285's gave me the possibility to go as high as 38.5" now. So if Doug upgrades to 285's I'm sure he'll be around 38. Also I believe Billy's setup initially w/ the 285's came out to 38 as well.
37-38" sounds like the #'s that we'll all be experiencing w/ the setup. If we need more lift, then I'm suspecting Body Lift would be the next best bet.

Thanks for the compliments. I'm really happy with the additional clearance and the added height. Ride quality has not decreased at all. In fact I'd say it's a little tighter but I like that.
I'll definitely be looking for another inch from Daystar. I think I'll go that route for more height. That wouldn't require any adjustment to the XREAS fronts. The rears however might need to be remounted. The jury is still out on that one though. I'll post it here when I move in that direction.
The reasons for more needed height is I'll be adding Jason's front and hopefully rear bumpers. My thinking is that 'll lose about 1/2 - 3/4 of an inch with the extra weight. What do you think?
I'm also waiting for my Nitto 295-75-16's (33.27" o.d.) to come in. They'll be mounted on MT Classic Locks. The steelies will be going to my FJ40. My buddy added these same black wheels to his Grand Cherokee so I need to try something else.
First Toy: My impression so far is that I'm still feeling a little too mushy for my blood. Even with the XREAS. My old truck was equipped with medium duty OME's and I had no body roll at all.
By the way, I've never tried the wheels without the center cap. I may try that this weekend.
Does anyone know where Sedonaz ordered his Daystar from?
Thanks again for the comps,
Doug M.
PS: Lance I changed my avatar to show you guys what I need easy access to the rear for. My wet and often muddy dog! :pig:

Since you'll be addin the front bumper, it'll be a good idea on the daystar lift too. I'm sure that'll help ya out alot! As for how much height you'll lose w/ the bumper, I dunno. I'm thinking 1/2 - 1" I guess.
Looks like you'll be sportin some big tires! Just start trimming as you'll have to do lots of it. I still have to hammer down the pinch welds so I don't have to worry about the tires hitting that. I'll probably do that this weekend when I have time.
As for the mushiness, need not worry as my 4runner feels mush too now. It's firm but sometimes it gets mushy since I don't have my swaybars in the front.
Sedonaz is actually going directly to Daystar so they can install their setup on a XREAS system. They're gonna see to make sure it fits.
Is that a goldie? Looks pretty big! Cute too but the avatar does no justice..

Awesome looking 4th Gen! These things are growing on me more and more!!!
You should see Bear, my 185lb Rotti try and squeeze in the back of my 2nd Gen...I think he hates me after I do that. But lately he's been having shotgun!!! I let him have it over my best friends...afterall, dogs ARE your best friends!

The only thing I know about the 4th Gen Sport Edition is that white was available and I got one in the end of June last year. In fact my dealer told me that Toyota didn't have a White Sport Edition with white cladding. They said that was only available in the Limited. I informed them that I had seen it listed on the inventory and sure enough it had just come in that morning. I haven't seen another one around yet.
Toyota is no longer offering the 4 Runner as an "SR5 Sport Edition" as they did with my 2002. Now it's either the SR5 or the Sport Ed.
I think white wasn't available with the "SR5 Sport" package on the 2002 and prior years. Someone here had asked if anyone had seen a white 3rd Gen with a hood scoop but I don't think anyone had.

Your truck looks hot man, the black and white are a perfect combination, the wheels the tint and roof rack all really make the truck stand out to be one of a kind and the white, I don't think I have seen an all white 4Runner 3rd or 4th Gen
You where able to put the spacers in their without messing with the X-Reas
do you think if you had rear height control you could still lift it.
Another think, I bought the X-Reas cause of it's cornering abilities does it still corner as well
As the Fons says AAAYYYYYY

Toyota is not gonna void any warranty with the spacers are they cause I know the X-Reas shocks are expensive

Thanks Edge.
As far as I know, Toyota shouldn't have any issues with the warranty of the XREAS shocks. In fact if you need a part or a nice illustration of the parts, try this link: TradeMotion
There are two sections to each vehicles parts inquiry: "Mechanical and Collision". Make sure you're in the right section. I almost went crazy not being able to find what I was looking for. Then I noticed I was in the wrong area.
Pretty cool site though.
I treated the XREAS lift exactly as a non-X'd truck. Working around the short hydraulic lines was the only problem I encountered.
Overall I would say the effectiveness of the XREAS has been diminished. The XREAS certainly does work still and is noticeable but the truck leans initially into a turn more quickly than it did before. I would love to find some Med or H.D. OME's that would match up with these rears maybe even from a Prado. In fact I'm going back to Central America next weekend so maybe I'll check out the Yota stealership in Managua while I'm there.
As far as height control: It should be possible to lift with rear height control still in place. I can't see why not. Essentially you are just changing where the rear coil mounts into.

Hey Woody,
Long time no "habla". I hope all is well.
I'm really happy with the new height.
By the way, I found the curb mirrors for left hand drive Runners. The dealer in Managua, Nicaragua must have them available there. I saw a ton of Runners and Prados with them my last visit.
I ended up renting a 2003 Galloper. Have you seen those? I have some pics I have been meaning to post of the rented truck. It's a turbo diesel 4WD SUV. I think it's made by Hyundai. Not a great vehicle but I liked the Diesel and it was loaded.
Doug
PS: I thought the plate was a good touch on an asian import!
