I'm considering a jump to the dark side. Trading in my trusty pathfinder for a 4runner. Pathfinders went soccer-mom after 2004, they're not the same vehicles they were before.

I've been looking at 4runners for a while and just found one that's in great mechanical shape except for one very odd bit on the windshield. It's being sold by a dealer, so they don't know the history of the vehicle, but it looks like the previous owner replaced the windshield with a non-Toyota windshield, and they did a really bad job.

There's silicone smeared about 1/4" up from the top of the windshield onto the paint. It looks like there's supposed to be a piece of trim there that's gone, and the trim on the right and left sides has been cut. So they cut the side trim to get at the window but didn't replace it with new trim, and then didn't replace the trim they pulled out of the top? And then it's not an OEM windshield either.

Other than that the vehicle looks totally straight. Engine purrs and the interior looks brand new.

I'm curious if 4runners have a history of windshield problems or if this is just a freak case. A buddy of mine had to exercise the lemon law on a 04 camry that had a bad windshield seal, so I'm a bit suspect of Toyota windshields..

 

I'd say that's a freak x-owner.
