zuk mod = smoother ride?

Hey All,

Ive done some searching on this but cant seem to find anything directly related to this....

In my 91 bracket lifted ifs pickup.. the ride is pretty harsh....not much forgiveness at all...

Admitedly the shocks (standard ones that came with the superlift kit) are probably 15+ years old and i will be replaceing them shortly (should help?)

My question is if i do the zuk mod will it help out with ride quality at all, or is it strictly to fix a sagging rear end...
what are the best springs to use.....

Just like Wabbit didn't search at all about seat swaps today....

It does improve ride quality. I'm sure pairing with new shocks will help too. But for $70 this is a damn good upgrade for both saggy rear and ride quality. check my signature for my DIY

Did your bracket lift come with blocks for the rear? (More than likely if it cost under $1000)

If so, that's why the ride is harsh.

Mine did (Pro Crap). I was riding on 4" blocks on OEM springs that had about 1" of travel....OUCH!

ZUKs made a huge difference.

ya, i have blocks.....i know the blocks didnt help for sure....but i didnt realizee with the zuk mod i could actually remove the blocks and get more flex.....

so im leaning towards the tj springs....seems easier than cutting etc. unless they hit the 35"s
I'll call tomorrow and see how much they run......

Hi Vohaul---
Any progress?
The TJ coil is one way....but I like the skinny 14" x 125 pound rated coils http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-RACING-C...125492&vxp=mtr for recommending to others. This would be ideal in your case.....no tire rub on the coils....you can get rid of the 4" blocks.....get 4.5" lift from the coils for a net gain of half an inch. The ride softness will be unbelievably smooth...soft. Bumps will soak up like never before. The wheels will actually seem to have articulation offroad and follow the ground much better.....this tends to mean better traction with wheels ON the ground. If the shocks are shot to hell then you will effect your benefits as would be expected.

I'd recommend doing the no weld method....cut the upper steel mount to be 1" long and the coils will slip right in place....they will not fall out due to the stock leaf packs having reached their drop point. The lower rubber mounts are perfect for capturing the coils if the rubber is in good shape. But so many of the trucks back East and possibly your area have rubber that is cracked or totally gone. New rubbers would be ideal. After this mod you will likely never experience an leaf pack sag EVER again. see the 2 links below.

im sure this has been covered but i couldnt find really anything on this mod for pickups pretty much they have been runners i just wanted to know most the runners are putting the 125s on but they have added wirght compared to the pickups so what would be the right ones to go with

There are lower weight springs you can buy. Runners are heavier and most go with 125# springs. There are threads about pickups....search!

Hey buck and duck

I did a zuk mod on my 88 longbed, with a shell and bike rack. Everything I found for research said to use #125, but that was for the 4runners. Even with the shell and bike rack on my truck, I still didnt think I needed #125. I ordered #100 Black Magic springs, borrowed a spring compressor from the local parts store. Install took 35 min, and I didnt have to take the wheels off the truck. I got 1.5 inch of lift, and a lot better ride quality, it rides within the middle of the shock stroke instead of at the bottom. Well worth my $70. I hope this helps. I can post after pics if needed.

I searched some threads, looks like I can ditch my 4" blocks, lose the CRAP ride, put in some 14" springs and maintain or even gain 1/2" or so. Just need to order the rubber bump stops, PO took them off for some reason.

+1 on removing blocks; they only raise the vehicle, not make ride any smoother.

Just need to order the rubber bump stops, PO took them off for some reason.
Don't know what bumps stop your truck has but Chefyota4x4 has a pair for sale.
