Zerk on U-joint?

Zerk on U-joint?

Well, I had back surgery not too long ago and my truck is in need of a grease at the u-joints and associated area. I asked my girlfriend is she would do it cause there's no way my back can handle crawling underneath and she said no problem (she has done minor maint. on Kubota's so I had confidence). I haven't done it since I got my truck...long story short, we couldn't find and zerk fittings on the u-joint but found the one at the back on the yoke, three in the center (should be 4?), and one at the yoke at the front. Could these be non-greasable? Would the zerk be ON the u-joint....she was looking everywhere for it but couldn't find it. Any help would be appreciated thanks.

My 95 4runner didn't have any. And I looked and looked...

But after I replaced them they do now.

Do you mean your new u-joints have them? Oh ya, also approx. how many pumps of the grease gun for the yokes (we gave it 5-8 good pumps) and other zerks? Funny, arachnoleptic fit...I get about 30 of those a day working in the bush! Is that for real?

Some u-joints do, some don't and are "lubed for life".

That's probably enough for the spline yokes. I tend to be a little lube happy, so I fill everything plenty full. Anything that won't pop the boot if over-filled(ball joints, etc.), I keep pumping 'till I can see/hear it coming out from where it should. Or untill significant restistence can be felt through the pump handle.

Ah, makes sense now....hmmm I'm not a fan of any "sealed" parts, maybe I'll switch em'out when I'm better. Hey, new avatar?! Thanks for the help!

Yep my ujoints that came from toyota were lubed for the life of the ujoint. Which ended last fall, not bad for 12 years. Knew it wasn't going to be pretty when I saw the rusty powder coming from the ujoint as it was pounded from the driveshaft...

So I made sure when I bought the new ones they had zerks...

I like the graffiti paint job...don't you think the tires are too small though...I'd look into that lol. Hey Poul D'eau I think mine are the original too, cause they are rusted to s"#@ maybe it's time to start looking for some new ones.

I have heard that hardcore drag racers dont like there u-joints to have zerks because of strength issues, but I dont know how true that is. For a daily driver I'd always get ones that I could grease.

just did the u joints in my rear driveshaft. the zerk fitting went into the end of one of the caps instead of in the body of the u joint itself. not sure i ever seen that before. i am also not a fan of non-servicable u joints.

Just FYI: my xtracab 94 p/u has EIGHT grease zerks on the driveline.
