Your experiences with NAPA reman alternators

Curious what others have experience with NAPA reman alternators for our rigs. How many times have you had to get it replaced under Napa warranty?

Are you talking the lifetime, or standard warrantee?

I work for a fleet, and we have very few "bad" NAPA alternators (we don't have Toyotas, but the big 3 are OK). We usually use the lifetime ones (NAPA premium)

Never used a NAPA alternator either, Reman Alternators are a crap shoot.
I slapped on a Sun Industries alt,(first one lasted a week) the second one works like a charm 14.5v 55amp steady @ 2k rpms. Price was $90.00 after core.

I don't know if it counts for the poll but I've got the Autozone Reman and I've replaced it somewhere around 6 times. They're getting less and less willing to do it.

0 for napa purchases
ive had to replace my 22re autozone 1x under the LLW and still have the OG in the runner.
for many other cars ive not had to go back to autozone more than 1x for a reman under warranty

in my experence i would never use reman. anything from the aftermarket. use factory stuff or your waisting your time and money. and i would rather do the job right and once and forget about it.

The one time I used a NAPA reman Alt, put the part in the truck, went to tighten it to the bracket and the threads pulled out of the alternator. So I had to nut and bolt the thing into the truck.

if you can afford it get the factory one from a dealer and save yourself some headaches.

I spoke with NAPA abou this specifically recently; they said they get a lot of returns on their "cheap" model, but the more expensive one they haven't had any problems.

I am running one right now, it's been in there 2 years. Holding up with no problems.

I even had it smoking wet and smoking REAAAAALY bad, scared the crap out of me, but it's still going strong.

My old one crapped out in the boonies on the highway and I managed to limp it to the next city on a Sunday and the only one they could get was the Napa reman but I had to wait until Monday morning to get it

I used to work at an auto electric shop many years ago. We did a top job of rebuilding alts and starters. Premium parts, and a price to match. Then the chain stores started selling "off shore" remans with a lifetime warrantee. No one wanted to pay the premium price anymore (even for a superior rebuild). He stopped doing rebuilds.

There was a visible difference in the quality of the internal parts. The advantage now, I know how to do my own rebuilds. Just have to find the good parts to put into them.

I'm not trying to start a fight....but....What makes you think that the (dealer)alternator you buy today is equal to or better than the quality from 10-16 years ago? I just replaced my alternator the original one about a month ago, and today I sold a replacement alternator for a 2004 taco with under 30k miles. What is the difference between the two Denso alternators? cheap parts. It's all a crap shoot I say!

I never buy anything from napa anymore. After 2 faulty fuel pumps, a crap air conditioner compressor and fighting with them over warranty issues, I will never buy from them again. My uncle used to swear by their parts as a mechanic and since rarely buys from them. I always buy so-called premium parts, and I go to the dealer now or oreilly.
