Although I own a 4runner that is a 3.0. I'm still very proud to own it as it has over 227,000 miles on it. Thanx in large part to a lot of you people on here. helping me with tech and troubleshooting.

I beg to differ, they are more expensive to maintain and not as reliable as Toyotas, but they are solid trucks. I'm looking at a few to pick up as side projects and my dad worked at a Ford dealership for 15 years. They may not be Yotas, but they sure do a good job pulling mine to and from the trail lol.

Those older f150's go forever! We had a 87 that went over 500,000km before the rear end locked up.

My dad has an 89 f-250 w/the tow package. everything but the engine is fantastic. we are on the second engine which runs like a top. the original engine never let us down, but had periodic problems that were just annoying. the second engine runs great when the old computer cooperates! haha we are going to swap it for a 5.9 mechanically injected cummins with a 10-speed roadranger!

the straight 6 is fantastic motor. the last of the true truck engines.

That thing has only had a few years to prove itself. Wait until it has 15 years and 200,000 on the clock. Anyway that is pretty sweet we made this list. I noticed Tacoma is there with 4runner.

I know it. It's seriously just a larger tractor motor lol. I was up on the fence trying to choose between that, the 5.4L Triton in the 1st gen super duty F250s, or one of the earlier 7.3L Powerstrokes. All of them are great choices though.

Yeah i agree, i like Fords, byno means are they Toyotas but they have their place and of all the domestics, they are top of the heap

Indeed. Dodge has a contract with the greatest diesel engine manufacturer in the US, but they built one of the worlds worst trucks around that platform, you can only make an engine seem so good and a chassis/suspension/body so bad. GM has got the mall cruiser section on lock with top end power and cushy interiors, but they don't make a real TRUCK.

that is why there is such a push to put a cummins in a ford, as the combo makes on the best combos ever. I am figuring out the components to make an older (1998) mechanical 5.9 cummins make around 320+ hp and 690+ ft lbs of torque. very doable and can be done reliably. throw that in a ford chassis with a good transmission and you have a killer truck.

^ I'd do the same but use the matching cummins tranny. If I had 20K to put into a truck right now that's what I'd be doing, but there just is no such cash flow. I have seen a few guys in Scottsdale with that set up though. Mean mean mean trucks. Could just pull down buildings if they wanted. I would love a cummins, but not nearly enough to have to deal with the truck wrapped around it.
