Yikes! 3.0 smokin' and dyin'

This is strange...My wife was driving the 4Runner and I was behind her. When she would leave from a stop light, a huge cloud of blue smoke would come out the exhaust but go away when driving. She pulled over and the engine was dying but not overheating. The coolant bottle was boiling and fluid was leaking from the power steering pump. I parked it and over the past few days, all the fluid has leaked out of the pwr. steering. If I try to start it, it tries to fire up and stumbles and then dies. Another thing was when it smoked, it didn't smell like oil burning. Could the pwr. steering fluid have gotten into the engine somehow through the two vacuum lines connected to it? What does ATF smell like when burned and what color? What is that gizmo on the side of the pump anyway? Thanks!

I could be wrong, but I don't think there's any way for power steering fluid to get into the engine.
Sounds like you have not one problem, but two.

Hmmm, maybe threw a rod? You sure it was pwr steering fluid dripping?

Who knows.....another question, anyone interested in a 91 4R for parts? Running boards, front brush guard, rear mounted spare, electric fan conversion, 160 amp alternator, bushwackers (not mounted yet), wired for second battery in the rear, A/C system replaced last year (compressor, expansion valve, receiver/drier, new hose), trans and 4wd great, engine dead.
