keep testing, that’s good. don’t start throwing money at it on parts you don’t need.

In regards to the CSI, I’ve tested it a few times now, when it’s cold when it’s hot, when the fuel system is pressurized and the pump is by passed. It’s just not weeping or leaking. It’s solid.

I’m still going to go down the MAF sensor testing, and check all of its stages to make sure it’s good. I agree I won’t throw money at anything that I’m not for sure isn’t cracked or broken, but those readings when it was hottest out seemed to be off. I will be giving it another go either tomorrow or Friday. We shall see. Thanks everyone for the help…

also I’m not throwing and CEL codes but would you guys suspect a bad O2 sensor could be causing this as well? And is there anyway to test an O2 sensor? I have a single O2 sensor downstream of the manifold maybe it’s causing me issues? But without a CEL code I just haven’t given it any thought thus far.

Have you tried running fuel without ethanol in it? I find that leads to more issues of hard-starting-when hot for multiple vehicles of mine.

Alright everyone, just so I don’t leave another thread open without a resolution and in hopes this helps someone in the future, this is what I found. After a phone call with 22re performance, and their generosity helping me run through the diagnostics again, It was in fact my cold start injector time switch, the resistance consistently measured at 80k and had no fluctuation when being tested in hot water and cold water, and what confused me the most was it was intermittent. So when I test the CSI in the vehicle I saw it spray and it must have been a stroke of luck that it happened to be work when I had pulled the injector out to see if it was working. Anyway the switch failed in the “hot” position which explains the high resistance reading. Sadly 22re performance didn’t have any in stock so I had to order a new switch from another supplier. Genuine Toyota parts of course.

I hope this helps someone else out there.

Interesting. I don't have this issue with my '94 4wd, but the '88 4wd I bought last month is the opposite of yours because it requires throttle and 3-6 seconds to start if it's cold and it wants to die for the first 5 seconds after that, though it is missing the auxiliary air valve (an electrical cold start high idle thing only present on '88 and older 22REs; the newer 22REs came with a non-electrical device on the bottom of the throttlebody that is more reliable) so I believe that's what's needed to correct its course. However, my buddy just bought a '94 2wd yesterday that has the same symptoms as yours -- difficult to start when warm. Will have to investigate.

Did replacing the cold start injector time switch fully remedy yours? Or is it that you just had a solid diagnosis discovery and have ordered the part but have yet to receive/install it? If the latter, then definitely update on the warm starting behavior when you do get it installed.

yes this fixed my problem completely. Sorry for not clarifying that. In the case of your friends 94 There are YouTube videos on how to test your cold start injector time switch. It is probably the most common component to go out when having these symptoms.
