yet another CV boot thread

I'm attempting to replace a torn driver's side inner CV boot. I have the inner boot cleared past the 6-bolt differential connection, but cannot get the outter boot out. The axle between the boots is touching the A-arm and I can't remove it past where the boot is. What am I doing wrong?

edit: nevermind, i got it, but it's a freakin tight fit. i guess i just wasn't swearing enough...

Glad you got it out. It is tight.
Next time it will be easy.

Disconnect the lower balljoint with the 4 14mm bolts. Makes life easier in and out.

this is next time. i did it like 10 years ago. i have my torsion bars cranked up a bit now though - does that make a difference? i don't remember it being this hard the first time.

thanks. will that require an alignment?

whats the best technique for removing the studs from the differential flange - just beat the crap out of them? there isn't a lot of room to get a backswing with a hammer.

got everything back together. the ball joint trick really helped. i wish i would have done that on the removal. i also disconnected the the lower shock mount and stabilizer bar from the control arm. the long bolt/sleeve/bushings connecting the stabilizer bar to the control arm had to be cut off and replaced. the FSM says the torque spec for the bolt is 9 ft-lbs. that seems very light.

all that's left now is a test spin...
