yet another a43d issue
My 89 has just turned 260k so its always got something for me to fix. My transmission now starts falling out of gear as it warms up. When cold it works pretty good. Goes thru all the gears and into OD. It does require me to lift off the pedal because it holds gear longer than id like. I could live w that but I think its a symptom of a larger prob.
Once it warms up good like 10 miles or so it will just start slipping out of OD. I can coax it back by letting off the pedal for a couple miles but then that doesnt work. When it gets to that point, it will fail to go into 3rd gear in D. I have to manually shift to 2 then it will go into 3rd. Switching back to D will not engage OD and if i slow down and it downshifts it will remain in 2nd. By now letting off the pedal to coax shifting is futile and when its stuck in 2nd gear i have to shift into L and quickly shift back to 2 or D and it will go into 3rd.
Truck sits for a few hrs it shifts fine again. The longer it sits like overnight the longer it will shift properly. Turn it off for an hour may not have OD when i get going again.
Ive checked the cable, changed fluid, changed filter same results. Im thinking once it gets warm enoigh, the fluid thins out and it can't hold pressure to keep it in higher gear. Does that means seals are shot?
Looking into used trannys but for the cost im considering a rebuild kit. Since im doing either swap or rebuild myself im wondering how hard it is to rebuild. Only want to pull trans one time and im sure used trans will have alot of miles.
Any thoughts?
