XTREME 4X4 design and build ?91 Toyota mini truck on Spike TV!
Wow, my Tivo picked up this first episode on the 15th, the next show which includes the test drive of this beast is at noon on Sunday, 22 July 2007. If you don't have cable, hit a bar! The first part of the build Rocked
XTREME Website
Twin Toyota Part I ?Solid axle swap, bob and dove tail the rear end are just a few how-to elements to this episode.
Twin Toyota Part II ? Trail payoff-Final installment of the ?91 Toyota mini truck transformation into a off-road mini beast! SAS, new suspension, small block V8 ? gearing set up tips, and an awesome trail payoff are all showcased.
These builds are always interesting to me. So, I thought that I would pass this stuff on to the forum, since it was probably some of our members' requests that got this build up covered. Their build is righteous, enjoy

i have been waiting for tm to do another hard core Toyota. The last one was that Land Cruiser. Any way, ilove the way they make it look so easy. But to have as much funds. they do a great job on these projects.

Narrowing front and rear/dovetail
The first episode showed how they were bobbing the bed and narrowing it to the width of the frame. They talked about narrowing the front and how it is easier on domestic trucks because the radiator support and inner fender bolts to the cab. But, Toyota/import front ends are welded, except for only the outer fender. The 3.Sl0w motor was dead, so it came out and left a nice place for a 350. And, while removing the IFS they'll also pull the front fenders in closer the way that the bed sides came together to dodge trail carnage. Anyways the rear end is dovetailed and narrowed like the front will be. I'm really anxious to see what it looks like narrowed in front. Some Baja trucks have a narrower rear, but I've seen few Yotas with a narrowed front, usually on full width converted pickups (most commonly built onto Heeps). The headlight, grill, hood combination will be interesting to see.

I really like this show. I know some of it is far fetched since it is XTREME!!! I however was disappointed when the threw in the 350. Why??? As soon as I saw part one yesterday, I knew instantly something was going to snap with all that torque. It would have been really cool if the swapped in the 3.4 with the SC. Anyone have a plastic 350 block lying around there garage???

BTW, does anyone know how Jessi Combs broke her back?[/QUOTE]
I heard she did it while lifting something, but thats just what I heard and I don't know exactly how that happened.
I also heard that they broke the truck its first time out which we should see at the end of the build.

Angle Pressure= Broken Pinion
The pinion on the front of the new transfer case broke because the angle was too much on today's show. That was an overkill on power with the 350 swap and 37's. The second episode was a disappointment for me because the truck had no grill modification or lights and wasn't streetable. The hood was junk along with the fenders. Why even put fenders on it when it looked that kindergarten? XTREME needs a body man the next time they modify Yota front ends...WTF? It took them 3 hours to fix that busted pinion, maybe an addition to the spare parts box would've made the time shorter. Everyone uses the 350 in Miata's to our Yota's. There's so many available parts, it just generic enough to do the swap with an engine that's earned a name like small block 350. I liked the cage that they had and it may make my list of must haves. Without the Tivo to fast forward through the cr*p, I would've began channel surfing waiting for my Yotapr0n
Yep the 3.sl0w had a timing 'chain' that was broken and it sounded like it was running with a bent rod or something from a hydrolock before it completely quit- It also had the regular problems like frequent head gasket and water pump replacements, along with wimpy gas mileage-I wanted the 3.4 swap too (1 more vote)

Did you watch the same episode I did?
They had to wait for it from the shop. They didn't work on it for 3 hours...
I'm all for the SBC swap they did too. Why fight it, it's a great motor...

3.0's use timing belts, and will not run with a broken one.
I really hate how much they bashed this engine.
Hell I have gone through one hg due to manufacture defect.
Thing has ran GREAT with 0 problems since then. 3rd water pump in 210,000kms.

Man, I sure hope mine doesn't break a timing chain... It would be hard to replace, let alone find the parts... It was really cool to see them working on a Yota but too bad they only have a half hour. I could have watched all day...
