woot woot found an engine!

I found an engine for my truck today for $350. It is used but only has 120,000 miles on it and comes with a slew of paperwork from getting serviced at a dealership for the past 5 years including an OEM timing chain at 112k. It is coming out of a 90 pickup and for some reason I remember reading that the harnesses changed after 1990, is this correct? Plug differences etc. Does that mean I will have to swap over my intake manifolds etc. and just use the long block or can I just swap over sensors etc.? My truck is an 86 4Runner automatic.

Forgot to mention this is a 22re.

Wow, thats a really good deal. Is the engine complete? Or is it missing the carb, headers, etc?

Well it's complete but it's carbed so I'd be getting it for the longblock but I just talked to the guy and even though he is parting out a truck he has no tools to get the engine out I have most of the tools but if he doesn't even have a cherrypicker I don't know what to do. I guess I'll hold off for the one I've been waiting for as he says a guy contacted him and said he'd come pull it himself. I just don't have the time or the tools.

advanced auto or auto zone may rent out cherry pickers also

or if he has a garage or large tree use a com along or 4 14 2x4screwed in a tall pyramid

as for tools you only need a basic socket set and a few long extensions

there are around 9 bolts holding the tranny on and 4 for the motor mounts and3or 4 ground wires.

if it where me I would un-bolt the motor mounts then the cross member let the tranny drop then un-bolt it from the motor then pull the motor two strong guys can lift a 22re fairly easy 4 is better though

if you had 3 friends to help get a 4x4 post and some chain hook the chain to the hooks on the motor and run it around the post and use the post to lift the motor out to guys on each side of the post.

I don't know what year your truck is, but to be safe, you'll want to match your injectors to your ECU and harness.. IE - use your existing ECU, harness, and injectors with the new motor.

I think that's the later upper plenum - so I'd keep that.. (straight neck)

You will have to use your intake, wiring, etc etc. The only thing you can use from the 90 is the long block.

Things changed about once a year, but the major intake and wiring changes occured in 89.
